Job Description

To perform Civil & Structural related engineering calculations, activities and review in the engineering business unit, ensuring the achievement of departmental objectives and provision of technical input to other departments. Reports to the Civil and Structural Manager.

Qualifications:

• B. Eng. Degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Pr Eng registered
• OR
• B. Sc. Engineering Degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Pr Eng registered
• OR
• B. Tech in a relevant engineering discipline. Pr Tech registered

Experience (post qualification):

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in the Civil and Structural engineering with experience in Mining or Mineral Processing Plants being essential.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in the detailed design of structural steelwork
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in the detailed design of concrete, foundations and reinforcing
• Design experience on dynamic structures and foundations required
• Must have a good knowledge of design codes
• Must have experience in seismic design, according to SANS standards
• Ability to function with and run with projects on own
• Have construction and operational knowledge and experience
• Good planning and organisational skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Awareness of Health, Safety, Environment and Community Policies and standards
• Proficient in normal design software, specifically Prokon
• Should be medically fit and be able to suitably perform site visits and inspections

The Role:

• This position is for a design engineering role with project team collaboration and support
• Be responsible to collate required input information to be able to carry out required duties
• Be responsible to direct project teams with regards to discipline requirements
• Be responsible to prepare civil / structural design engineering calculations
• Review and sign engineering calculations and drawings at appropriate stages
• Interface within various project structures to ensure that the project is completed in time and budget
• Participate in and contribute to design reviews
• Assist with mentoring and supervising junior engineering staff
• Prepare project estimates and assist in tender preparation
• Site inspections and visits may be required periodically; these will require medical fitness examinations
