The Phoenix Group of Companies is seeking a junior corporate legal advisor to join the legal services department in their Johannesburg offices.

Key duties and responsibilities of the role:

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to;

• Review and drafting of commercial agreements;
• Assistance with conducting due diligence investigations;
• Drafting and the implementation of B-BBEE ownership structures;
• Providing general commercial legal advice;
• Responsible for support on drafting, updating and revising all internal processes relating to compliance including making recommendations for improvements in the quality of service delivery;
• Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of law and compliance;
• Assistance with company FSB compliance;
• Assisting and advising companies with legal, corporate governance and compliance; and
• Providing any other assistance to the business on client matters and related tasks as required.

Requirements of the Associate Corporate Commercial (EE) role:

• Admitted South African Attorney;
• 0-1 year's PQE, gained in a corporate practice area;
• Strong IT literacy, including an aptitude for learning; and
• Experience working in a commercial legal environment.

Personal Attributes of the Corporate Lawyer role:

• High level of attention to detail, but can also step back from the detail and see problems, opportunities and trends;
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to summarise complex issues succinctly verbally and in writing; and
• Strong analytical ability, coupled with sound judgement to balance multiple factors and solve complex problems.
