    Job description

    Job Purpose:

    To manage and co-ordinate all functions of the Training Centre (System Operations) and to plan, design and market all courses presented by the Training Centre.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Undertake responsibility for all training activities for the current and future requirements.
    • Responsible for direction and control of all staff of the centre as well as administrative functions of the centre.
    • Market the Training Centres courses, learning programme, etc. to local authorities, Eskom, Telkom, major industries and other Units.
    • Assess learners and training personnel and evaluate training provided to local authorities, Telkom and industrial customers.
    • Assume responsibility for taking financial control and attend to the ongoing financial needs of the training centre.
    • Identify training and development needs of staff and update training materials to meet training needs.
    • Keeping abreast with technical developments and innovations in the electrical industry and undergoes training for personal development.
    • Recommend and approve applications for electricians to be deemed competent or authorised persons from medium to high voltages.
    • Promote the of system operation safety to electricity unit staff, local authorities and industrial customers.
    • Undertake special projects, including productivity improvement programmes and training related assignments.

    Essential Requirements:

    • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent must be authorised without restriction in terms of the System Operating Regulations to operate on MV and HV systems or be in a position to become authorised to operate on HV systems within 6 months of appointment.
    • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
    • 3 Years relevant experience.
    • Experience in electrical reticulation; which must include switching, isolation and earthing of main and apparatus operating at voltage levels ranging from 220 volts to 11kV, of which 2 years must be at a supervisory level.
    • Preferred Requirements:
    • 4 Years relevant experience.

    Special Conditions:

    • 40 hour, 5 day week.
    • Be prepared to work overtime when required to meet the exigencies of the service.
    • Permanent locomotion allowance or departmental transport at the discretion of the Head: Electricity.
    • Protective Clothing: As per PPE Schedule.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Good health and mobility.
    • Physically capable of carrying out the duties of the post.
    • Work sample and/or psychometric tests may be undertaken as part of the selection process.
