Brief description

The purpose of this position is to manage and oversee a function that develops and provides appropriate integrated risk management services to the management of the currency-producing subsidiaries of the South African Reserve Bank Group (SARB Group).

Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following tasks.

• Coordinate governance and risk-related reporting to executive management and the oversight committees of the subsidiaries.
• Develop, maintain and promote an appropriate common risk management policy, framework, approach, culture, methodology, process and support system for the subsidiaries.
• Facilitate and coordinate formalised Group-wide and departmental risk management processes in the subsidiaries.
• Evaluate and give input into the format and content of reports from all role players on specialised operational risk management activities at the subsidiaries.
• Assist with ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the following functions of the subsidiaries:
• business continuity management, including utilisation of the SARB’s alternate site and the process of coordinating and facilitating business continuity testing;
• occupational health and safety (OHS) management, including OHS policies and procedures, compliance oversight and corrective actions; and
• independent information security oversight, including independent assessment against recognised information security management standards.
• Lead, manage and develop staff members in the division.
• Provide relevant management information to the executive and governance functionaries.

Job requirements

• To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of
• an Honours Degree in Management, Risk Management, Finance, Auditing, Engineering or an equivalent qualification;
• at least 10 to 12 years’ experience in governance, risk and/or compliance management; and
• at least three years’ experience in a senior management position.

Additional requirements and skills

• knowledge of, and experience in, generally accepted governance, risk management (including specialised risks such as business continuity, OHS and information security) and compliance practices;
• knowledge of recognised risk management frameworks and standards;
• knowledge of the King IV Report on Corporate Governance for South Africa 2016;
• knowledge of, and experience in, providing management consultancy services;
• skilled in the different governance, risk and compliance tools and techniques;
• skilled in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems;
• skilled in building strategic relationships and multidisciplinary cooperation;
• skilled in negotiating;
• skilled in innovative problem-solving;
• skilled in communicating; and
• skilled in interpersonal relations.
