    General Manager

    Job description

    Responsibilities

    Overall responsibility for managing the Lighting business in South Africa: setting up the team, creating brand recognition, building business relationships and develop projects.

    The job responsibilities may contain but are not limited to the following:

    • Formulating and directing at the strategic level the overall operation of South African entity, analyzing economic, social, legal, and other data to formulate business plans;
    • Consulting with subordinates to formulate, implement, and review company/organization policies. Authorizes funding for policy implementation and institutes reporting, auditing, and control systems;
    • Coordinates headcount planning, assists headquarters in selecting new employees, and develops and implement’s employee training initiatives.
    • Involved in counseling and disciplining managers when necessary, while communicating corporate values, strategies, and objectives;
    • Establishing performance review and employee development programs through planning, monitoring, and appraising job results, developing incentives, and providing further learning opportunities;
    • Developing strategic plans by evaluating government/local authority departmental activities while engaging in discussions with the entities to formulate South African company policy assumptions and objectives;
    • Accomplishing subsidiary objectives by establishing plans, budgets, allocating resources, monitoring & measuring progress, and making mid-course corrections;
    • Coordinate and streamline operations efforts by establishing procurement, production, marketing, and technical services policies and practices.
    • Building company and brand image by collaborating with customers, government, community organizations, and employees, while enforcing ethical business practices;
    • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, bench-marking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.

    Personal Requirement

    • Educated with a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
    • 10 –15 years’ experience in the lighting industry, preferably in a sales capacity;
    • Well networked with experience in developing a client base and growing market share within the South African and surrounding markets. Target clients will be installers;
    • Demonstrated leadership skills with the capability to manage large teams;
    • In depth knowledge and experience in the pricing and selling of lighting products;
    • Open and able to frequently travel.

    Skill Requirements

    • Assertive leadership skills combined with the ability to make critical business decisions;
    • Create a culture of teamwork while motivating the sales team;
    • Excellent written/ verbal negotiation, presentation, and public speaking skills;
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate across different levels with various employees and clients.
