    Department Manager Electrical Engineering

    Main Purpose Of Job

    • To oversee the Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering discipline for all customer sector groups for Worley in South Africa, collaborating with other locations globally as required.

    This Will Be Achieved Through The Following

    • Maintaining capacity and capability in accordance with operational requirements.
    • Ensuring quality assurance to discipline personnel.
    • Promoting technical excellence within the discipline.
    • Participating in project initiatives.
    • Supporting operations with their access to markets.
    • Interfacing with other disciplines.
    • Implementing Worley systems within the discipline department.

    Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities

    • Develop technical project deliverable plans, policies and strategies, and measures, and translate the plan to align with project scope
    • Assign Lead Engineers and all Engineering and Design personnel to meet project requirements
    • Review and support in compiling of discipline CTR’s.
    • Develops and maintains manpower work plan for discipline
    • Provide professional input to Business Development requirements as appropriate
    • Prepare ad-hoc reports for management or customers
    • Sponsor the implementation of new required systems
    • Recommend appropriate systems and controls to put in place to manage resources and assets
    • Accountable for developing and implementing administrative and technical practices, specifications, and procedures.
    • Initiates and approves the development of specific standards and specifications.
    • Single point accountability for the upkeep of storage and listing of all discipline specific standards stored on the network
    • Financial management of the operation and all related projects to promote profits and cost effectiveness
    • Ensure that the costs are kept within the relevant project budget, both for materials and labour, including the time allocated for engineers
    • Coaching, teaching, mentoring, development and effective supervision of discipline personnel
    • Responsible and drive annual and intermittent staff appraisals within the discipline
    • Ensure discipline involvement in industry associations and lead the industry
    • Manage discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding Industrial Relations
    • Ensure that competent employees are recruited for the work required
    • Ensure that the appropriate systems are developed and implemented so that employees receive advise on career opportunities and the requirements to achieve personal growth
    • Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers
    • Support operations with strategic growth
    • Maintain HSE focus in designs

    • Extensive knowledge of Electrical and/or Instrumentation Engineering tools / Software
    • Intimate knowledge of and application of SANS/IEC
    • Extensive understanding of project controls function
    • Good Multi-Office Project Experience
    • Extensive Multi-Project Phase Experience
    • Thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule

    Education/ Minimum Requirements:

    • Recognised Engineering Qualification (BTech, B.Sc. or B.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering
    • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech Eng)
    • Additional qualification in Project Management or Business Management will be advantageous

    Experience:

    • Minimum 15 years plus relevant prior experience and additional training.
    • At least 5 years of relevant Project Lead Engineer experience
    • Proficient understanding of the EPCM project delivery requirement in the Mining, Mineral & Metals or Refining & Chemicals industry sectors.
    • Proficient understanding and relationships with key customers.
    • Expert knowledge of applicable theories, practices, and accepted procedures
