• A thorough knowledge of battery technologies and applications is required. Experience in the telecommunications field and renewable energy is of vital importance. The incumbent must also have experience in varying rectifier systems. Knowledge regarding UPS applications is required as well as a sound base in solar technology. The person will be responsible for engineering, design and technical support of systems. Identify and source the best of breed hardware and accessories for standard and alternative energy solutions.

Key Performance Areas:

• Conduct engineering site audits to collect structural, electrical, and related site information for use in the design of residential or commercial solar power systems.
• Design or coordinate design of photovoltaic (PV) or solar thermal systems, including system components, for residential and commercial buildings.
• Create electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for solar electric systems, using computer-aided design (CAD/ HelioScope) software
• Review specifications and recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to achieve solar design objectives.
• Develop design specifications and functional requirements for residential, commercial, or industrial solar energy systems or components
• Provide technical direction or support to installation teams during installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, or performance monitoring
• Site Improvement & Optimization Plans
• High Volume Electroluminescence Services
• System & Component Failure Investigations/ Root Cause Analysis
• Providing the sales team (internal/ external) with the necessary technical expertise to enable sales and sales processing
• Review product pricing, forecasts, and constantly monitoring inventory levels held at warehouses including liaison with production (locally and globally) to ensure supply timelines.
• Providing specialist support, guidance, monitoring and evaluation of Installations and Maintenance Services.
• Building relationships with all stakeholders.
• Maintaining ISO, SANS and other applicable standards
• Ensuring that Suppliers conform to ISO standards.
• Make product diagrams/specifications and any specific product requirements available to all stakeholders.
• Oversee product non-conformances and taking the appropriate action where required.
• Monitoring and Evaluation of Suppliers.

Ensure Suppliers Compliance to:

• BBBEE legislation
• Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, regulatory standards and statutory requirements.

Requirements:

• Matric
• Applicable Diploma or Engineering Degree (Electrical)
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the principles of product life cycle, financial structures, accounting procedures and purchasing processes.
• Thorough understanding of the energy environment in South Africa (Nersa, IPP)
• Knowledge of battery technologies
• Knowledge of solar systems and modules
• Knowledge of telco power systems
• Electrical wiring Low voltage AC & DC
• Working knowledge of energy modeling, PV specific modeling, standard electrical calculations, basic structural & mechanical calculation
• Experience with medium voltage power electronics
• Design, maintain and support of telco power systems.
• Commercial Solar system design, permitting, construction, commissioning, and operations and maintenance.
• Experience in providing technical support for energy related projects with accountability for project performance and design.
• Strong knowledge of photovoltaic system design and optimizing system components for energy production.
• Strong knowledge of electrical and structural design components and manufacturers. Experience in value engineering of photovoltaic or other constructions projects.
• Good working knowledge of standard utility process for interconnection approval and design requirements.
• Strong AutoCAD skills (software for 2D architectural and electrical plans) and knowledge, able to fully CAD and produce drawings for projects.
• Strong communication, presentation, and project management skills.
• Product pricing with international shipping component, pre-inspections, tariffs, duties etc.
• Ability to carry out string testing and IV-Curve Testing
• Computer literacy including MS Office, Accpac.
