Introduction

Enko Capital Investments (Pty) Ltd is part of Enko Capital, a highly successful asset management firm that focusses its investment strategies across the African continent. The company has primary offices in Johannesburg and London, and satellite offices in Mauritius and Côte d’Ivoire.
Enko currently seeks an operations analyst to be a key member of the operations team on its listed securities funds. This is an opportunity for an ambitious person to join the team as an analyst and develop as an integral member of the dynamic growing business.
Location: Johannesburg
DUTIES
Trades

• Managing the process to clear and settle transactions;
• Confirm all VCONS and trade confirms are received, signed, and booked from the front office;
• Store and retain all trade confirms;
• Proficiency in company’s internal portfolio management system: Broadridge;
• Document and retain all correspondence related to payment calculations;
• Managing corporate actions (calculating and confirming coupon payments and bond maturities)
• Follow up on discrepancies with counterparties and Enko’s front/middle office;
• Be capable of quickly identifying problems and escalating them to the proper person;
• Proactively identify and plan for maturities and fixing dates prior to due date;
• Proficient in certain idiosyncratic securities that have security-specific requirements: e.g. Nigerian Certificates of Capital Importation;
• Liaise with administrator to confirm all trades have been reported and entered;

Payments

• Verify all payments prior to processing;
• Process payments in a timely manner;
• Promptly notify senior management to make payments;

Margin

• Maintain high proficiency in derivative products Enko trades;
• Thoroughly understand all aspects of margin: initial margin, variation margin, margin calls, etc.;
• Analyse margin variation calls from counterparties and be able to confirm or dispute;
• Reconcile margin accounts;

Cash Management

• Produce daily cash reconciliation;
• Monitor and calculate intra-day cash balances to alert front desk of liquidity needs;
• Project future cash needs;

NAV Calculation

• Reconcile all monthly trades and cash movements between 3rd parties, internal records and administrator’s records;
• Confirm pricing of securities and FX;
• Liaise with 3rd party administrator when discrepancies are identified
• Assist auditor and administrator with annual fund audit

General

• Contribute to improve the execution efficiency and reliability of financial transactions;
• Identify and manage unforeseen events using knowledge of financial markets and settlement procedures;
• Maintain strong and positive relationships with operations teams at trading counterparties, custodians and prime brokers;
• Completing ad hoc tasks as assigned by senior members of staff;
• hours when required;

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Undergraduate degree required
• Consistently strong academic background that demonstrates a clear progression to ever more challenging pursuits

Experience & Requirements

• 1-2 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting
• Authorized to work in South Africa

Required Skills:

• Native or fluent proficiency in English
• Very strong competency with Microsoft Excel
• Strong quantitative skills

• Cogent and succinct communication skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
