    Advanced Phenotyping Specialist

    Purpose of the role
    Responsible for execution Unmanned aerial system (UAS) - Drone activities and or other advanced phenotyping technologies as well as collection and monitoring of environmental data at trial locations
    Main Duties

    • Pilots unmanned aerial Systems (UAS - Drones) for the collection of multicrop phenotyping data in the East of South Africa
    • Ensures climatic data is collected for the East
    • Ensures quality data is uploaded and extracts reports to identify areas for improvement in East phenotyping effort
    • Is involved with data analytics in analysis of phenotyping data
    • Remains current on new data collection technology and traits and implements the use thereof.
    • Engages with peers and supervisor on scientific problems towards developing technology enabled solutions and efficiency
    • Works on moderate scientific problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables
    • Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
    • Collaborates with Yield trial teams, to coordinate equipment movement. External Trial cooperators and vendors
    • Can work independently for long periods as well as in a team environment
    • Engaging scientists towards problem solving. Use of equipment, interpersonal conflict resolution, engaging with trial cooperators to discuss land requirements

    Qualifications
    To Grow What Matters, You Will Need

    • B. Sc / B.sc Agric degree (M.Sc preferred)
    • UAS (Drone) operation experience.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ industry related experience is required
    • Experimental design and data analysis.
    • Ability to perform activities requiring broad theoretical grounding and understanding of classes of problems in a specified arena (i.e. agriculture, biology).
    • Able to read, write, speak, and understand English at a high level.
    • Competency to perform activities requiring expanded theoretical knowledge, grounding and innovative application to an array of problem categories.
    • Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather
    • Ability to stand/sit for extended periods
    • Ability to fulfill general employment expectations including regular attendance and working specified hours or overtime as defined by supervisor, acceptance of supervision, getting along with others in the workplace, maintaining acceptable standards of office conduct, etc
    • Ability to establish, monitor, and provide feedback on objective performance criteria
    • Has a valid Driver's License, experience driving a pick-up or SUV would be beneficial.
