    Centre for Learning Technologies (CLT)
    Advisor: Higher Education (Learning Technologies)
    (Ref. SLT/143/0620)

    The post is positioned within the Centre for Learning Technologies (www.sun.ac.za/clt). The CLT promotes, develops and supports the use of learning technologies for learning and teaching at SU. Some of the focus areas of the Centre include: (a) HE academic development partnerships with faculties in the effective use of learning technologies in an integrated teaching model; (b) Telematic Services, that supports postgraduate off-campus programmes through interactive satellite broadcasts and web technology; (c) Professional multimedia, video and mobile video recording services; and (d) Online/ hybrid learning design. Through these focus areas and services, the Centre seeks to promote the richness and reach of the learning experience of SU students as well as to assist teaching staff and faculties in their pursuit of quality academic programmes.

    Duties        

    • The meaningful integration of learning technologies in programmes and modules in partnership with faculties. This includes support for quality learning and teaching and for the professional development of academics, with a focus on the use of learning technologies in teaching and learning (including blended-, online- and hybrid learning).

    Duties will include:

    • Collaborating with colleagues on Centre and institutional projects;
    • Closely cooperating with faculties;
    • Providing advice, support and training to lecturers;
    • Monitoring, evaluation and research;
    • Digital learning and teaching resources design;
    • Technical and administrative support relating to projects and training;
    • Developing and managing a professional learning design service in the Centre with the focus on fully online/ hybrid learning modules or programmes and online short courses;
    • A focus on the development of and research on the CLT and SU's approach to Open Educational Resources (OERs) is also envisaged.

    Job Requirements    

    • A Master's degree;
    • Three years' relevant working experience at a higher education institution;
    • Experience in academic development in Higher Education with regards to educational / learning technologies/ blended learning approaches;
    • Experience and proficiency in the use and support of a Learning Management System as well as other learning technologies;
    • Experience in the design and development of MOOCs and/ or fully online courses;
    • Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills;
    • Strong interpersonal skills in the context of a team;
    • Project management experience;
    • Proven digital design experience (e.g. videos, SCORMs, podcasts, interactive digital content);
    • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g. LMSs like Moodle, Office suite, Adobe suite, Camtasia, iSpring);
    • Proven scholarly and critical-reflective orientation towards learning technologies.
    • As part of the interview process, short-listed candidates could be expected to perform a task based assesment test based on the requirements as set out in the advertisement.

    Recommendation        

    • Qualification in an Academic Development, Educational or Educational Technology field;
    • A PhD;
    • Experience of teaching in higher education;
    • Experience in monitoring and evaluation;
    • Experience in educational research;
    • Experience in managing (a) learning designer(s) and learning design processes;
    • Exprience in the development and research of Open Educational Resources (OERs).
