Job description

Key responsibilities will include:

• Assist the Divisional Manager with project proposals
• Feasibility studies for green field and brown field agricultural projects, including
• hydrological studies, soils investigations and economic evaluation
• Co-ordinate hydrological studies, soils surveys, topographical surveys and
• geotechnical investigations
• Design of bulk water supply systems (dams, river intakes, pump stations and major
• conveyances)
• Design of bulk water infrastructure (pump stations and mainlines – layout planning,
• network analysis, pump and motor selection, pipe work design, chambers etc.)
• Design of infield irrigation (system layout and planning, including drainage, roads,
• fields, mainlines)
• Assist with the design of dams and dam safety inspections
• Carry out flood line determinations, including flood hydrology
• Design storm water systems including detention dams
• Ensure that quality standards are achieved and maintained
• Ensure client satisfaction and client retention is achieved

The ideal Candidate should:

• Preferably have an MSc Degree Agricultural/Civil Engineering or a BSc
• Agricultural/Civil Engineering Degree
• Have at least 5 years’ experience in designing of bulk water supply, irrigation schemes and dams
• Be familiar with AutoCad, ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Model Maker, MS Projects, MS word and Excel
• Have experience in preparation of feasibility reports, design reports, procurement
• documentation and contract administration
• Be capable of functioning independently and as part of a project team
• Be prepared to travel within and outside RSA borders

* Irrigation designer registration with SABI is advantageous
