    MAIN PURPOSE

    Deliver profitable & sustainable departmental growth by buying a balanced product range according to our unique formula and in line with the Group strategy and customer led processes that meets and exceeds customer expectations within the agreed KPI’s.

     

    KEY OUTCOMES

    • Drive market share and profitability of the category
    • Give input to Category and Supplier strategies
    • Manage supplier Open Book Costing Models
    • Manage financial indicators and all expenses
    • Develop and implement pricing strategies
    • Give input to the planning and forecasting of products and ranges
    • Build and manage relationships with a diverse range of suppliers
    • Liaise with marketing, sales management and space planning to maximise sales and promotions in stores
    • Liaise with distribution regarding Supply Chain issues
    • Monitor and react to industry and international trends
    • Give input to NPD for Cross Group Activity and Trends analyses
    • Integrate Trends findings with Category Strategy to compile development plan in line with the needs of the customer in the category
    • Analyse and understand existing catalogue and make recommendations to grow profitable and/or customer led range offer
    • Analyse competitor actively with Buyers & Benchmark analysis with NPD
    • Liaise with the internal and external stakeholders in order to develop range plan
    • Implement Waste Packaging reduction initiatives to meet category targets
    • Identify and implement Packaging Recycling and Compostable initiatives to meet targets
    • Drive and formulate development briefs with other team disciplines to suppliers and packaging teams (ie technical and commercial input in development briefs)
    • Formulate and drive the Critical Path
    • Following the prescribed workflow method in coordination with all internal and external stakeholders to deliver product launches on time. 
    • Conduct Post Launch Analysis and communicate and implement learnings (PIR)
    • Provide packaging centre with full comprehensive packaging brief, liaise with packaging centre to ensure packaging deadlines are met
    • Give information/brief on new products/ranges for Marketing purposes
    • Give input to equipment and store design/lay-out and décor, as well as space allocation,planning, adjacencies and shelf efficiency. Ensure the space planner understands the intrinsics of all new product ranges and target customer

     

    TECHNICAL & FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Relevant diploma / degree
    • 3-5yrs relevant exprerince
    • Commercial skills and experience
    • Knowledge and understanding of Supply Chain concepts, processes and systems
    • Understanding of factors influencing a product’s cost and selling prices
    • Proven ability to co-ordinate and deliver the category operating plan
    • Strong integrator across the Matrix Teams with proven leadership skills and people management skills, as well as the ability to coach and mentor junior team members.
    • Strong negotiation and financial management skills
    • Proven ability to deliver the following category KPIs

    –      Market share

    –      Sales growth (like for like)

    –      Margin (Percentage and cash)

    –      People measure

    –      Supplier performance

    –      ROS (waste/ shrinkage/departmental charges/sample cost )

    • Quality / high standard mindset
    • Proactive & Innovative with a continuous improvement mindset
    • Strong customer and retail orientation - sound business acumen; commercial awareness; good judgment; emotional resilience
