The Job

The opportunity to join the leading innovators and most forward-thinking IT architecture team in the Retail space. The seasoned team of IT Architects includes leaders in enterprise architecture, solution architecture and data architecture. The company operate in an Agile high volume- trade environment, leading Africa’s largest retailer by utilising cutting edge technologies, both on premise and across multiple cloud platforms.

This client is paving the way in data warehouse solutions, data warehouse, data marts, and operational data stores, etc. In this role you will lead the data warehouse solution architect strategy. You will be the key point of contact, advising and shaping the data warehousing solution. It will be your responsibility to create high-quality data, application and technology architectures to support this fast paced and highly commercial business

 You will need to have the experience and personal gravitas to lead the realization of the design into the final solution implementation. This means deep subject matter knowledge of data staging, data warehousing, data marts, operational data stores and reporting as applicable to the Retail business domain.

Key Responsibilities:    

• Define a structured data warehouse architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the enterprise.
• Architect the next-generation data warehousing framework developed on a group of core technologies.
• Align to the enterprise data reference architecture in support of the enterprise and regulatory information governance needs such as Information Security, Enterprise Information Management, POPI, PCI, etc.
• Ensure that the Data Warehousing approach integrates into the methodologies and processes of the rest of the Enterprise Architecture team.
• Define and create solution level data warehousing architecture models that are aligned with business blueprints.
• Analyze business requirements and create related Data Warehousing architectures and designs for the baseline and target solution architectures.
• Perform quality assurance checks on Data Warehousing Architectures and Designs and enforce quality compliance criteria to set policies and standards.
• Ensure Data Warehousing security conforms to Information Security Governance policies and standards.

Qualifications    

• Degree in Information Systems / B Sc Computer Science (or similar)

Experience        

• 7+ yrs IT industry work experience
• 5 + yrs in data warehousing with at least 5 project lifecycles
• 5 + yrs ETL integration technologies (SSIS, Talend, SAP Data Services, etc.)
• 5 + yrs Experience with all aspects of IT projects from business analysis, architectures, system analysis and design through development,testing, implementation, and production support (SDLC).
• 2 - 3 yrs Lead a team through an architectural development process and collaborate with application development teams, architects and other members of the software development team.

Knowledge and Skills     

• Architecture and design (UML, OO, SOA, etc.)
• S/W frameworks and methodologies (Agile, TOGAF, etc.)
• Solid track record in successful delivery solution architecture
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and logical skills
• Excellent team-working, interpersonal skills
• Develop of proposals and excellent written communication & presentation skills
• Excellent organisation and facilitation skills
• Strong conflict management skills
• Knowledge and experience in the design and use of (multi-dimensional) Data Warehouses, and the use of ETL software to provide these with information
• Experience using an RDBMS and advanced skills in query languages, especially SQL
• Experience using BI solutions, decision support systems, OLAP technology, and multi-dimensional data
• Experience with modern data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, Teradata, Oracle 12c, Informatica, Cloudera, Alteryx,etc.
