    Deputy Director: Campus Services

    The incumbent will be required to support the Director in the management of the Department of Facilities Management by developing and implementing a Business Support Services model for the Department by managing an elaborate portfolio encompassing the following:

    • University vehicle fleet including rental vehicles and student bus services in accordance with statutory requirements;
    • Industrial hygiene and cleaning of all university buildings including lecture halls;
    • The provision and maintenance of landscape services and sports fields management;
    • Environmental management across all University campuses;
    • The provision of waste management services across all campuses of the University;
    • Provision of Stores services (approximately 3 000 commodities) and,
    • Manage ad hoc contracts of service providers in the areas above.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant post graduate degree (Business/Economics/Management/Financial)
    • Fifteen years’ experience of which five must have been in a tertiary institution .

    Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)

    • Knowledge on Strategic management;
    • Knowledge of Contract management, including knowledge of requirements related to procurement processes and contractual agreements, e.g. service level agreements;
    • Environmental and Waste management knowledge;
    • Fleet Management knowledge;
    • Knowledge of Supply Chain and Logistics management;
    • Knowledge of Financial, Human Resources and Administrative management;
    • Sound knowledge of the statuary legislation related to waste, environment, landscape, transport, hygiene and occupational health and safety and all human resource management legislation;
    • Knowledge of Landscaping and Sports Fields, Environmental and Waste Management;
    • Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene and Building Cleaning Services;
    • Effective Project management skills;
    • Analytical skills;
    • Organisational skills;
    • Human Resources skills;
    • Negotiation skills;
    • Physically able to visit sites/buildings in order to conduct inspections;
    • Excellent communication (verbal, written, presentation) and customer-service;
    • Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills;
    • Certificates in end-user applications (MS Office Suite).

    Added Advantages And Preferences

    • Certificate/Diploma/Degree in e.g Financial Management, Human Resource management, Strategic Management and/or Facilities Management.

    PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.
    The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
