Position Description
Maintenance Technician (Diesel Mechanic) – Braecroft Timber Farms

Position Purpose:

To safely perform maintenance tasks of all Braecroft farms vehicles and equipment , ensuring their long term reliability, thereby contributing to the overall effectiveness of the forestry division.

Key Accountabilities:

• Establishment of a preventative maintenance plan, including regular liaison with Drivers/operators

• Appropriate record keeping of all vehicle/equipment maintenance, as well as spares and workshop stocks

• Manage a workshop, and ensure correct level of critical spares are always in stock

• Manage service providers and suppliers, ensuring cost effective solutions

• Maintain high standards of Health, safety , quality and environmental compliance

• Ensure Fire protection equipment is always serviced and in good working order

• Ensure fleet of tractors, trailers, Bell loggers and TLBs are operational , and in safe working order

• Ensure numerous slashers, mulchers, implements, small pumps and motors found on farms are operational

• Ensure daily controls are in place to check vehicles and equipment are in safe working order

• Attend to breakdowns

Required Qualification, Experience and Skills

• Diesel Mechanic Qualification (Trade tested ,Grade 10-12), Driver’s License
• Minimum of 10 years general forestry maintenance experience
• Knowledge of Hydraulic systems, Diesel and petrol engines, firefighting equipment, farm implements and electrics
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Competent welding ability
• Basic electrical skills
• Zulu-basic (able to converse in/deal with operators)
