    Employee Relations Manager

    Summary of Role

    • The purpose of the role is to provide subject matter expert advice, ownership, support and guidance to management and employees on all Employee Relations matters within the Astron Energy. Ensure that harmonious work environment is maintained and that company specific ER matters are dealt with proactively to minimize the risk, and ensure company overall compliance with labour and employment related legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA)

    Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic advice to management and employees on policies, agreements, regulations and legislation.
    • Provide expert and specialist advice to management on HR and ER legal and regulatory compliance including the LRA, BCEA, Employment Equity and applicable Astron Energy conditions of services and the company’s HR and ER policies and procedures.
    • Review and draft HR policies, collective agreements and other legal agreements.
    • Collaborate with HR Business partner (HRBP) to advise line managers on the application of and compliance to the Astron Energy disciplinary code, grievance procedure, disciplinary procedure, incapacity and relevant legislation.
    • Advise senior management on complex Employee Relations matters and on the appropriate approach to effectively dealing with the ER matters.
    • Develop and ensure compliance with the Astron ER strategy, policies and substantive agreements.
    • Provide a professional Employee relation services.
    • Effectively plan and prepare for CCMA/bargaining council proceedings to represent the Company.
    • Central point for the co-ordination of all CCMA/bargaining council referrals and ensure compliance to CCMA/bargaining council rules and processes.
    • Open and prepare files that are due for Labour Court proceedings.
    • Represent the organization in dispute resolution processes including mediation, arbitration and negotiations.
    •  Assisting or representing management in statutory conciliation/mediation/ advisory arbitration proceedings.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Employee Relations/Labour Law or Legal degree 
    • Postgraduate degree in Employee Relations/ Labour Law;
    • Admitted attorney with labour law experience
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience, at senior management level with full competence in all areas of the ER value chain
    • Experience working in a similar role in a complex unionized environment
    • Significant high level experience in dispute resolution including mediation, arbitration and negotiation.
    • 10 years’ relevant managerial experience, with at least 5 years at senior level

    Skills

    • Knowledge and understanding of labour legislation
    • Knowledge of contemporary industrial relations dynamics, case law, labour legislation, trends and trade union matters
    • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of CCMA/Bargaining processes
    • Conflict resolution and problem solving skills
    •  Ability to function independently and under pressure
    • Computer Literacy
