    Engineer: Equipment and Machinery

    About The Job

    The CSIR has a vacancy for an Engineer: Equipment and Machinery in the Facilities Management and Security Services portfolio. The incumbent will be responsible to ensure that all CSIR Equipment’s and Machinery are maintained in accordance with legal requirements, authorised plans, procedures, schedules and budgets. Implement and manage cost effective preventative maintenance programmes to ensure Equipment and Machinery safety and reliability. This position is based in Pretoria.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Active member of the FM&SS Engineering team with joint responsibility for developing and implementing the Engineering Operational plans;
    • Develop and track CSIR Machinery compliance registers;
    • Solely account for planning, co-coordinating and managing the maintenance of CSIR equipment and machinery for up to five (5) year timeline;
    • Ensure adherence and compliance with regard to statutory requirements, legislation and site operating procedures like the OHS Act and GMR2 responsibilities;
    • Account for Management of Change (MOC) system for equipment and machinery;
    • Prepare budgets and bids and drive contract negotiations;
    • Manage sub-contractors process to ensure compliance with all applicable statutory requirements, legislation and site operating procedures;
    • Document operational and maintenance philosophy of all classes of equipment and machinery;
    • Create work plans, workflows, staffing and schedules;
    • Create and document job specifications, risk assessments, method statements and measurable delivery standards;
    • Conduct root cause analysis of failures, reoccurring incidents, etc.
    • Provide final sign-off on procurement of all equipment and machinery;
    • Ensure that equipment and machinery are optimally managed to obtain optimum equipment life and availability at the most economical cost;
    • Manage all modification, assembling and disassembling of equipment and machinery with final sign-off for all modifications;
    • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering work performed;
    • Actively engage both internal and external stakeholders regarding CSIR equipment and machinery compliance, maintenance and modification;
    • Influence and implement an action plan according to CSIR and Industry standards;
    • Develop and implement business and operational plan for CSIR equipment and machinery;
    • Facilitate meetings with stakeholders, such as local city councils;
    • Ensure compliance with SHEQ regulatory requirements and standards in area of responsibility;
    • Ensure that all CSIR equipment and machinery are safe for use;
    • Administer and manage designated portfolio professionally and effectively;
    • Provide leadership, technical direction and guidance to the CSIR for management of equipment and machinery;
    • Ensure effective management of relationships with the business and provide professional leadership, influence and two-way communication;
    • Manage, mentor, coach and play an advisory role for staff growth and development;
    • Identify and implement training interventions;
    • Recommend and facilitate developmental plans;
    • Ensure optimal resource deployment;
    • Develop and manage CSIR Divisions Equipment and Machinery maintenance budget;
    • Ensure cost effective service delivery;
    • Ensure compliance with financial legislative requirements.

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least five years’ experience in engineering and equipment management, such as Plant Engineer with sound track record in:
      • Engineering design standards and codes;
      • OHS Act;
      • Sub-contractor management;
      • People management;
      • Project and financial management;
      • Operational planning and implementation;
      • Understanding industry standards and regulations.
    • Knowledge and/or competence of/in the following:
      • Equipment and machinery management;
      • Development and implementation compliance standards;
      • Management of Change in a process plant or in a manufacturing
      • General machinery regulations;
      • Contract management;
      • OHS Act;
      • SANS 10400.
    • Must be in possession of a valid Driver’s License.
