    Food Quality Manager

    SUMMARY:

    • An exciting Food Quality Manager position has opened up at Pumpkin Patch Foods in Stellenbosch, starting 01/10/2020.

    PREREQUISITES:

    • Bachelor's degree in Food Science
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in a food quality assurance role
    • Experience in operations management preferred
    • In-depth knowledge of food safety systems and relevant government regulations pertaining to the food industry (i.e. HACCP, FSA, GFSI, BRC, FSSC22000, etc.)
    • Excellent computer literacy

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:

    • Self-management – you need to be highly driven, results-oriented, and comfortable working under pressure.
    • Leadership – motivate and direct employees to achieve high targets for production efficiency and food quality. They are comfortable managing multiple teams working collectively toward a single goal
    • Resource management – prioritize and manage available resources, such as personnel and inventory, to increase production performance.
    • Data analysis – extract critical and actionable information from large amounts of data. Review production data to uncover how operations can be optimized for future growth.
    • Problem-solving – unexpected developments demand that you exercise keen judgment and creative thinking. Design time-sensitive and effective solutions to these problems while remaining calm under pressure.
    • Communication skills – use clear oral and written communication to manage large teams and convey critical information to the production team and management.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Oversee Operations

    Prioritise and manage production resources in order to meet company goals and objectives. This includes both material and personnel resources.

    As part of your daily duties, you may:

    • Meet with supervisors and inspect facilities for compliance with food safety and occupational health and safety standards.
    • Review customer feedback, respond to any product complaints and devise methods to resolve these issues.
    • Meet with management to communicate any important issues in the production environment

    Devise and Implement Innovative Strategies

    • Devise new strategies in reaction to market changes. These innovative procedures should improve product quality and overall production performance.

    Communicate Production Performance

    • Regular analysis of food quality and operational activities allows the food quality manager to assess overall production performance and trend product quality. You will be required to present this information to the executive leadership team and contribute to discussions in strategizing how to improve production performance.

    Team Management

    • As an arm of executive leadership, you are responsible for a subset of departments and teams (i.e. production workers, warehouse workers). Develop successful, high-performance teams through effective training, motivation, and communication.

    Review Market and Regulatory Developments

    • Keeping abreast of market and regulatory developments. Conduct consistent research and network with influential figures to stay up to date.
