    Psychologist II - Makhanda

    Main Objectives
    As a senior member of a team of psychologists and interns in the Counselling Centre, the primary purposes of this job are to provide comprehensive counselling and psychological support to students, provide advice to University staff members in managing students with psychological problems, assist the Head of the Centre in the supervision and training of intern psychologists.

    The requirements
    Registration and compliant with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist (Masters’ degree) with at least 3 year’s relevant work experience over and above their internship.  Individuals who have supervised interns will be at an advantage.                         

    Relevant experience includes: -

    • Any work with adolescents or individuals in early adulthood. The greater the diversity of this experience the better for example, experience in one on one counselling, group counselling and educational work
    • Those individuals with specific experience of working with University students will also be at an advantage.
    • Experience in training of groups
    • Experience in the counselling of HIV/AIDS patients will be an advantage as well as any involvement in HIV/AIDS initiatives/programs
    • Being able to speak Xhosa will be an advantage

    Mathematics Lecturer - Makhanda

    The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at Rhodes University is seeking to appoint someone at the level of Lecturer and invites suitably qualified candidates to apply. 

    The requirements

    A PhD in Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics or Theoretical Computer Science, however, candidates with an MSc in Mathematics Theoretical Physics or Theoretical Computer Science, with sufficient progress made in completing a PhD (i.e. have completed at least 2 years of PhD study), may also be considered. Candidates should have an ability to teach in Applied Mathematics.

    The Protocol for the Election of an external Dean involves an election process by the members of the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Law based on the vision and motivation prepared by candidates and a selection process conducted in accordance with the Recruitment and Selection Policy of the institution.

    Requirements

    For appointment as a Professor or Associate Professor, a PhD in law, with at least 10 years’ experience either as an academic and/or researcher or in legal practice/commerce, and a successful track record in the following areas: -

    • Own research, preferably having led initiatives at the departmental/Faculty level to improve research within the department/Faculty, but meritorious applied research outputs outside of the academic sector may also be considered.
    • Supervision of post-graduates, up to PhD level, with a keen understanding of the supervisor role would be a distinct advantage.
    • Teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, preferably having led initiatives at the departmental/Faculty level to review and improve curriculum and assessment in the department/faculty, or engagement with teaching and learning within the legal profession/commerce while working in the profession/commerce.
    • Leadership and management roles at the departmental or faculty level, having led initiatives at the departmental/Faculty level to review current functioning or explore new processes or taken responsibility for large projects, or similar experience in responsible leadership roles in the legal profession/commerce.

    Project Manager: Nurturing Emerging Scholars Programme (NESP)

    Main Objectives

    The purpose of the job is to manage the activities and services of the NESP Project, including the quality assurance processes and systems of the project and to ensure that these occur timeously and precisely.

    The requirements

    A Honours Degree (Masters preferable), with 5 years relevant experience in project management with experience that includes: -

    • Exposure working with DHET-funded projects in a management position, would be an advantage
    • Previous experience in leading projects with multiple stakeholders
    • Previous administrative experience within a computerised environment, which includes good organisational and planning skills as well as problem-solving and time-management skills
    • Previous experience managing and reconciling budget accounts is essential
    • At least 3 years supervision experience where such experience includes the supervision and motivation of staff and dealing with conflict
    • A valid Driver’s Licence and be willing to travel to NESP meetings and events
