    GM: Operations / Operations Executive

    GM: Operations / Operations Executive

    Our National Brands Limited business, centred on the FMCG market, focuses on the beverage, biscuit and snack brands. An exciting opportunity has become available for an Operations Executive to join our Snackworks Isando site, reporting directly to the Operations Director.

    The Operations Executive will be responsible for all site activities and needs to be a dynamic leader. The successful individual will be required to build a strong culture, provide direction to the Heads Of Departments and motivate teams in order to achieve the Company’s goals.

    Responsibilities

    Leadership

    • Leading and directing the factory to reach strategic goals.
    • Leading the site HODs to facilitate the execution of operational goals and key performance targets.
    • Working closely with the HOD team to ensure a safe work environment, production efficiency, quality control and cost management.
    • Bringing thought leadership and innovative thinking to the manufacturing site to ensure future success and sustainability of the factory.
    • Achieving factory goals and initiatives affecting safety, quality, cost, delivery, people and sustainability.
    • Directing the planning and utilization of manufacturing principles and processes to improve all areas of the operation.
    • Facilitating teams and ensuring all improvements are sustained and continuously improved.
    • Ensuring continual improvement, corrective action and customer satisfaction practices.
    • Creating a team-oriented working environment that fosters growth and accountability
    • Acting as an ambassador for the NBL culture and values.
    • Active participation as a member of the senior management team of NBL

    Quality Control

    • Ensuring customer and internal expectations are met relating to quality, cost and on-time delivery.
    • Ensuring manufacturing processes are optimized for each product line and that process controls are in place.
    • Being responsible for the technical accuracy, quality and cost-effectiveness of the manufacturing operation.
    • Driving and fostering a quality mind-set to ensure a high-quality culture at the worksite.

    Safety, Health and Environment

    • Leading the safety, health and environmental agenda for the factory.
    • Ensuring legal compliance to the OHS Act and AVI Safety Policies.
    • Being responsible for ensuring a safe workplace by driving safe work practices.

    Performance Delivery and Continuous Improvement

    • Delivering weekly production targets against the plan.
    • Overseeing of continuous improvement using lean manufacturing with a strong discipline to systems execution.
    • Participation in short, medium and long-range plant expansion, conversion, and equipment planning.
    • Accountability for the correct maintenance and conservation of all manufacturing equipment and assets.
    • Overseeing of building maintenance and equipment, and plant security and protection.
    • Provision of manufacturing leadership in problem-solving and troubleshooting of issues or problems and facilitating and directing continuous improvement across the site.
    • Working with the internal and external supply chain to optimise supply chain performance, ensure business continuity and quality.

    People Management

    • Developing resource plans and appropriate recruitment and development strategies.
    • Approving direct reports’ objectives and evaluating performance.
    • Developing employees through coaching and training.
    • Building strong employee and labour relations to ensure a high level of engagement.
    • Participating in relevant labour forums to champion operational requirements.
    • Driving transformation and strategy execution to achieve business results.
    • Collaborating to drive employee engagement and retention.

    Cost Management

    • Forecasting operating costs of all facilities and directing the preparation of annual budgets.
    • Developing and directing programs to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of facilities.
    • Developing a comprehensive site capital and maintenance budget consistent with the site’s 5-year plan.

    Policies and Procedures

    • Implementing and supporting NBL policies, programs and initiatives.
    • Ensuring that site activities, decisions, and actions conform to production policies and procedures and support the needs of internal and external customers.
    • Ensuring processes and procedures related to manufacturing operations comply with safety requirements.

    Qualifications and Experience required

    Experience:                                                                

    • At least 10 years experience in a manufacturing environment at a senior management level is essential
    • Proven experience in managing a production/manufacturing facility managing cross-functional teams and Heads of Departments
    • Experience in a food manufacturing or packaging environment would be an advantage
    • Exposure and experience in working with a unionised workforce
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and application in Risk Management
    • Ability to demonstrate a detailed understanding of Production, Engineering, Quality and Logistics with a broad understanding of Finance, HR and NPD/R&D

    Qualifications:

    • Completed Bachelors’ degree in Engineering (Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical) or Food Sciences
    • Post-graduate qualification ideal
