    Head of Product Incubation

    Head of Product Incubation

    Our Business Development Department is looking for a Head of Product Incubation to join the team based in Cape Town. The purpose of this position is to incubate, manage and drive the new product development lifecycle in order to ensure effective growth, delivery, and expansion of new products.The Head of Product Incubation reports directly to the Head of Strategy and Business Development. This position is responsible for taking ownership for new product developments by managing the product lifecycle from idea inception to post-launch. They are required to create and drive new product strategies, including research, analysis and delivery of new products and new product ideas generated within this function, and from elsewhere in the business. Internal liaison takes place with various departments and managers depending on the project scope. External liaison takes place with suppliers, partners, and 3rd parties.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities (include but is not limited to):

    • To take ownership of the new product development lifecycle
    • Conduct research and analysis into new product ideas
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders and act as subject matter expert for new product developments
    • Manage the product lifecycle from initial inception to post-delivery
    • Create and execute new product development strategies
    • Establish go-to-market readiness of new products
    • Liaise with Marketing in order to coordinate communications strategy
    • Manage the products Profit and Loss as its own business unit post launch
    • Recruit and oversee teams to run the Products once they have grown to a significant size
    • To drive product development by ensuring iterative improvements in Mukuru products
    • Identify ways to increase customer acquisition of new and existing products
    • Ensure that the feedback tools are used by all stakeholders in order to identify problems proactively
    • To develop the business by identifying, researching, and developing potential new product concepts
    • Compile commercial modelling to establish feasibility
    • To project manage risks and issues on projects to mitigate negative impact on the project outcomes
    • Define key outcomes for each new product project and monitor these metrics to ensure effective delivery occurs
    • To accurately analyse and report on all project statuses and identify strategic areas for improvement
    • Coordinate the cross-functional teams’ meetings
    • Report on issues encountered and completed activities
    • Provide manager with monthly project reports
    • To manage own professional and self-development

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
    • Tertiary qualification (Essential)
    • MBA or relevant master’s degree (Desirable)
    • 5 years’ experience in Business Development (Essential)
    • Experience in Product Development (Essential)
    • Working with PM tools such as Trello/Asana/Jira (Desirable)
    • Experience with financially underserved customers (Desirable)
    • Experience in financial services in Africa (Desirable)
    • Demonstrated ability to tolerate ambiguity, a self-starter able to bring structure to an unstructured environment
    • Knowledge of Business

    • Knowledge of payments and remittances
    • Knowledge of software capabilities
    • Knowledge of go-to market principles
