    Head of Marketing (Fixed Term Contract)

    The role will be responsible for providing input to the AF Group strategy to enable the business to realise its vision and strategies. This role will manage the execution of relevant marketing activities to ensure effective fulfilment on the organisation’s or business area’s marketing plans. This includes alignment of all marketing and communication to the target market and customers in order to create brand preference, drive purchasing behaviour, client experience and achieve high retention rates, including targeted direct communication and mass-media marketing.


    • Marketing management capability that allows for efficient conceptualization, planning and delivery of marketing and media strategies for relevant business areas
    • Operational execution and analytical business thinking to build segment brand capacity
    • Through analytical business thinking translate strategies into actionable goals and execute relevant projects / initiatives aligned to strategic objectives with specific performance measures and control systems to track progress
    • Monitoring of changes in laws, regulations, initiatives and relevant industry practices, drafting and implementation of appropriate interventions. Comply with audit requirements.
    • Ensuring a collaborative network across business segments in order to achieve business objectives and effective marketing campaigns implemented in the business units
    • Initiate and manage market research, data mining and quantitative analysis to ensure sustainability and future competitive growth
    • Develop processes and measures to track effectiveness of communication campaigns

    Key Performance Areas

    Marketing and strategic communications to attract new customers

    • Define marketing requirements and positioning per customer value proposition, to create brand awareness and consideration, and to drive prospective customers to Alexander Forbes distribution channels
    • Develop marketing and public relations plans
    • Engage with all team members to align proposed marketing activities and to brief requirements
    • Develop and deliver marketing campaigns

    Marketing and communication to existing customers

    • Establish processes and procedures to align and integrate all communication to AF clients
    • Elicit communication requirements from all areas and develop a program and plan for aligned, integrated communications, including personalised direct communications and marketing campaigns exploiting data analytics
    • Develop a well-rounded communication strategy that ensures delivery of client content in the most effective manner
    • Develop communication and direct marketing campaigns
    • Execution of campaigns

    Monitor and track the impact of Marketing and Communications

    • Set goals with measurements
    • Monitor progress and results
    • Report on impact and effectiveness
    • Planning, budgeting and financial management
    • Together with Exec Head of Marketing, prepare the multi-year and annual marketing strategy, objectives, plan and budget for the relevant business areas
    • Where necessary, make recommendations for changes to the plan and budget outside of the annual budget cycle.
    • Manage to the plan and budget, including:
      • Continuously monitoring performance against targets and budgets
      • Taking corrective action or escalating concerns
      • Managing expenses to limit the variance of actual to budget, and ensuring that overspending is duly authorised in line with policies, procedure and mandates
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and mandates, laws and regulations

    Leadership and people management

    • Ensure team’s individual goals are defined and measurable, and that they are aligned to the divisional goals
    • Manage, support, inform, mentor, motivate and develop team members
    • Assess employee performance and provide input into the reward review process.
    • Perform talent management planning
    • Comply with the BEE strategy

    Senior Developer

    • Provide technical expertise for project and team during design and code reviews, ensuring best technical practices are applied.
    • Follow Agile Development practises
    • Assist development team in compliance with policies and procedures

    Accountability: Software Solution Design

    • Apply Software Engineering Practices
    • Participate in Release and Iteration Planning meetings with engineers and users.
    • Assist during design of the software solution
    • Assist in physical and logical database design and be able to interpret design diagrams and documents.
    • Understand software engineering techniques such as the use of UML (Unified Modelling Language), Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), etc.
    • Be aware of software standards applicable in the organisation. This can include standards for quality, security and compliance (SAS 70)

    Accountability: Software Solution Development

    • Be able to successfully interpret design documentation and build the software solution according to the specified requirement.
    • Develop and test technical solutions using the development tools applicable to the team he/she functions in.
    • Apply software engineering best practices gained through formal education, policies and work experience, during development of software solutions.
    • Solution Reviews
    • Provide constructive feedback for improvements after solution reviews.
    • Install and test latest Service packs and patches that apply to the environment
    • Attend to maintenance calls from business via System Administrator, within SLA, and with minimum returns and/or bugs

    Accountability: General

    • Communicate with team members or relevant stakeholders regarding technical design and implementation of the solution.
    • Be able to use team collaboration tools such as document libraries, source control and email.
    • Attend meetings to understand customer requirements, make design decisions and report on progress
    • Assist with installation of hardware environments; provide guidance regarding hardware requirements to host the software solution.
