Industrial Structures Engineer at Mott MacDonald

The Industrial Structures Engineer role is key to the Built Environment sector of the Africa unit Consultancy Business. We are seeking to appoint the individual in our Durban office to provide technical engineering support and leadership for the industrial structures team, whilst also linking closely with structures teams across other Mott MacDonald global offices and through our practice networks. The individual appointed will be a member of the Built Environment and will report directly to the Building Structures Leader.

The key remit of the role will be to:

• Lead and further grow/develop our established industrial structures design team in Africa;
• Take responsibility for the day to day management of those staff, including career development and providing a clear team structure;
• Provide strong and enthusiastic technical leadership of the design team’s projects;
• Support the seamless integration of all other building disciplines at project level within the Group (civil, geotechnical, structures, environmental, facades, fire engineering, MEP, etc);
• Oversee successful delivery of projects commercially, directing their progress as necessary;
• Lead business development activities for the region, including the management of external and internal client relationships; and
• Encourage the use of Digital Technology to increase efficiency and enable effective sharing of work.

Who you are:

• Qualified graduate in BSc (civil and structural) Engineering degree (or equivalent)
• Holding more than 15 years experience in Industrial Structures
• Have the ability to successfully demonstrate technical (design) skills, with a proven track record designing industrial structures;
• Have enthusiasm and a dynamic approach to work;
• Have an outward facing personality with good interpersonal skills;
• Be self-motivated with good organizational capability;
• Appreciate and understand the main SA construction law and contracts;
• Understand the financial constraints of the SA construction consulting industry;
• Have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills;
• Have good client care and development skills, and with a strong network of clients in the built environment;
• Have the ability to quickly evaluate and rationalize risk;
• Have flexibility and be willing to question and respond in a positive manner;
• Have strong understanding of BIM; and
• Have good knowledge of Building Structures software and drawing packages.
