    Technical Lead

    Job description

    Our Opportunity

    Responsible for the leading the investigation and recommendations of appropriate innovation and technology ideas in order to plan, deliver and execute various technology projects and programs that align to Bryte’s business objectives or address complex IT problems that may arise with the scope of responsibility inclusive of relevant line management responsibilities

    Business Accountabilities:

    • Supports delivery by ensuring that appropriate resources are mobilized and that project delivery against their operational, financial and strategic delivery commitments.
    • Responsible for the management of quality, cost and leadership of the people delivering services including external suppliers and subject matter expert
    •  The Technical Delivery Lead has a strategic role in facilitating and leveraging the entire lifecycle of IT investments in infrastructure and systems

    Key Tasks & Accountabilities:

    • Strategic Oversight
    • Leads the technology strategy and design phase of projects including technical activities relating to discovery, evaluation of technical options and recommending of technical solution alternatives for Bryte’s target architecture end state. Activities will include documenting the technical designs including the associated financial, delivery and risk profiles.
    • Works with the Head of Business Change , Head of IT Run and COO to define and document the Target Technology End State for Bryte
    • Supports and adheres to the strategic direction set by executive management when executing technology projects and programs
    • Works in partnership with Head of Business Change and Head of IT Operations to define appropriate technical and architectural governance and standards that set the direction for all aspects of technology practice for Bryte
    • Remains profitability focused when providing technology solutions to the organizations supporting the financial objectives of technology run cost of 2% of NEP or less
    • Works with Head of Business Change to define appropriate strategies to build internal capability (skills, knowledge, experience) in both Build and Run teams when introducing new technology

    Operational Delivery Requirements

    • Participates in pre-project business case development activities including documenting of technical solutions, assessment of supplies and/or technical RFP criteria and , developing of technical prices estimates
    • Provides technical direction, leadership and decision making on projects that require subject matter expertise, escalation or alternative approaches in order to meet project delivery dates by ensuring that solutions are properly architected and specified, and partners with the project manager to ensure quality of delivery
    • Leads the day-to-day activities for one or more delivery teams ensuring alignment to software delivery processes/best practices and end state target architecture.
    • Works  with project managers to implement, review and improve on  project management standards and procedures set out by the PMO
    • Leads and advances technology delivery  through the implementation of best practice architecture design, development, testing, and code deployment processes
    • In collaboration with Project Manages proactively leads all aspects of defining the support and maintenance model required to effectively transition projects from Business Change to IT Run in collaboration with Project manage

    Stakeholder Management

    • Builds engagement with relevant support teams internally and externally through effective communication and change management plans
    • Acts as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders by providing advise and guidance on issues that may affect Build or Run Teams
    • Communicates technology strategy to senior level executives across the organization at the appropriate governance committees
    • Supports the Head of Business Change in promoting effective team work between Build and Run Teams
    • Team Leadership
    • Responsible for leadership of team in line with Bryte HR processes and policies

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Essential 

    Relevant IT Degree and Relevant Project Management Certification

    Experience

    • 10+ years in large-scale system delivery
    • Experience in IT Project / Programme Management having managing medium to large teams of resources working on site and virtually
    • Experience in detailed project planning, monitoring and reporting
    • Delivery experience in different technology suites
    • Comfortable in articulating business requirements into technology designs
    • Used to working in the full Software Delivery Lifecycle, managing teams to:
    • Translating technical requirements into systems deliver requirements
    • Technical and Functional Design for all new development and major customization projections
    • Oversees the technical build and testing phases of all projects
    • Partners with project managers to provide insight to the test Strategy, for managing test cycles from initial integration test through to UAT for specific technical implementations
    • Partners with project managers and data owners to defining the Data Strategy, defining targets for each conversion in line with Bryte’s data governance standards
    • Implementing appropriate processes and controls for code management, code promotion and code storage for projects 
    • Experience in validating proposals and RFP responses for new technology projects 
    • Experience in project commercials, for both new proposals, and on-going project commercials
    • Experience delivering service-oriented (SOA) solutions
    • Experience with one or more of the following technical stacks: Java/JEE, Oracle
    • Experience in delivering solutions such as TIA, Duck Creek, Oracle SOA/TIBCO ESB, Point to Point Integration, SOA integration, ETL’s, Cloud Infrastructure

    Knowledge:

    • Program Management. Project Management. PMLC
    • Business Analysis
    • Change Management
    • SDLC
    • ITIL processes
    • MS Project
    • MS Vision or other standards
    • Oracle 10g DBA Certified Professional.
    • Oracle 9i PL/SQL Certified Associate.
    • Oracle 11g: Advanced PL/SQL Certified Professional.
    • Experience in IT leadership and management
    • Experience of the Dev Ops Environment
    • Experienced TIA developer specifically in Domains of RI and or Finance
    • Knowledge of insurance applications
    • Experience of Database design and modelling using Oracle technologies
    • Experience in IT infrastructure and software development
    • Experience of Unix/Linux & Windows

    Additional Information
    This role is based at our Head Office (15 Marshall Street, Ferreirasdorp, Johannesburg), but travel will be required.
