    Interconnect Specialist

    Job description

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job:

    Task Complexity:

    Operational Planning:

    • Provide advice as a core member (in respect of interconnect billing & revenue assurance) on new product and service developments as and when required
    • Consider the implications of these actions from a more broad perspective for the next year or two e.g. identify and implement solutions to remove revenue leakage – switch to build/trend analysis/comparison to other operators.
    • Consider the impact of solutions on other areas of the business, as well as the interdependency of units and contribute to address them appropriately
    • Assisting in the creation of a revenue responsible organization, to be alert of revenue leakage, over-billing and revenue maximizing opportunities
    • Assist driving best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level
    • Input into identifying ways to fine tune systems in line with changing work practices especially those producing desired deliverables and services to the client and management

    Budget Management:

    • Identify areas where money is lost and seek ways to reduce expenditure
    • Assist in identifying opportunities to generate additional revenue

    Operations:

    • Produce accurate and timeous interconnect billing information for current (and future) interconnect partners at all times on daily, weekly and monthly basis
    • Produce accurate and timeous interconnect accrual information for current (and future) partners at all times on daily, weekly and monthly basis
    • Maintain current and future interconnect billing system/s within rapidly changing technological environments to pro-actively minimize the possibility of revenue leakage (eg. Mobile Number Portability new interconnect products)
    • Model, develop & load new interconnect reference data for all new partners and products
    • Identify improvement opportunities related to the accuracy of rated interconnect information 
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of rated interconnect data through ongoing operation revenue assurance
    • Run comparisons on exchanged rated CDR’s to identify reasons for variances as well as corrective action
    • Within delegation take necessary steps to ensure identified corrective action is implemented
    • Assist with the resolution of billing queries

    Information sharing and reporting:

    • Provide information for the monthly interconnect reports and supporting reconciliations
    • Provide input to financial commentary on a monthly, quarterly and bi annual basis
    • Provide input to financial policies & procedures, making recommendations as necessary
    • Report on a monthly basis to the Interconnect Operations & Managed Infrastructure Manager on the performance of the interconnect billing system and outstanding/ contentious issues
    • Ensure production of and distribution of monthly billing and revenue assurance reports
    • Provide with the necessary authorisation EDR extracts to customers and suppliers when required to do so

    Customer Relations and Satisfaction:

    • Meet with competitors to build relationships
    • Provide expert advice with regards to interconnect on a company-wide basis
    • Take part in ad hoc projects, and provide specialist advice
    • Provide insight as far as the impact of interconnect on other areas of the business and visa versa
    • Assist in providing and preparing information for legal disputes between MTN and interconnect partners
    • Monitor and assist with the resolution of all interconnect rating and billing queries
    • Understand customer needs and develop and fine-tune systems accordingly
    • Ensure customer needs and requirements are satisfied through appropriate systems / processes / procedures
    • Put contingency plans in place to prevent delays and enhance the customer experience
    • Adopt a proactive approach to prevent problems from arising in the future
    • Initiate change to continually improve all aspects of service delivery
    • Drive continuous improvement as an important element of service delivery

    Quality Management and Improvement:

    • Provide continual input to define the business requirements of interconnect system enhancements
    • Data modelling of existing and new interconnect agreements
    • Automate manual processes wherever possible
    • Adhere to wholesale billing department’s policies, processes and procedures
    • Comply to new processes and procedures arising from the implementation
    • Perform, report and comment on all user acceptance and regression testing related to reference data and system changes
    • Proactively apply and report on business rules and their impact on the revenue cycle
    • Identify and take corrective action to minimise revenue leakage
    • Embed technological change into day-to-day processes, to proactively minimise the possibility of revenue leakage
    • Perform the development of systems and provide input into processes to continuously identify quality constraints and improve on re-occurring problems
    • Maintain systems in line with best practices, legislation or other regulations/ guidelines
    • Maintain and improve on quality standards that will enhance the customer experience and cost efficiency
    • Work consistently according to standard operating procedures
    • Understand and maintain the quality standards of the job, communicate these reasons to others
    • Understand and communicate the consequences of not maintaining quality focus
    • Provide input to quality processes and procedures when required.
    • Seek feedback from clients/ stakeholders and continuously seeks ways of improving on quality and customer service standards
    • Where relevant, implement all operational plans within agreed deadlines

    Adhere to all SLA’s affecting interconnect

    Participate in reviewing and giving feedback on mediation logic affecting the interconnect billing system thereby proactively managing the accuracy of interconnect measurements

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education:

    3 year Degree / Diploma in Financial Management / Accounting / Internal Auditing or related

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an area of specialisation; with experience in supervising others
    • Experience working in a medium organization

    Training:

    • Systems training e.g. Interconnect, SQL, MS PowerPoint Excel Outlook and Word Single view exposure would be advantageous
    • GSM Network training

    • Product Knowledge
