    Legal Contract Manager

    • To ensure overall management of legal and commercial processes and activities, including but not limited to the oversight of the contract management process, development of specific standards for contract negotiations and document management.

    Key Performance Objectives
    Tasks
    Contracts Management

    • Support business during negotiation with clients and suppliers when required by the business.
    • Manage the company’s trademark portfolio and the company’s contract database.
    • Ensure contracts drawn up within the Legal Division for clients, suppliers and in mergers and acquisitions, whilst fair to both parties, protect the company from unnecessary risk.
    • Ensure focus is placed on the areas of the business which are currently not covered by legal agreements and driving the compliance in these areas.
    • Together with Senior Management, support the business with expertise and process to assist with the resolving of legal disputes with either clients or suppliers.
    • Write, audit and negotiate contracts with customers, suppliers, agents, other entities of the MultiChoice group and any other third party.
    • When required, accompany MultiChoice management in contract negotiations, providing legal advice and warning for possible bottlenecks, pitfalls and any other concerns.
    • Assist with general contract management.
    • Ensure that duly authorized signatories sign documents as required.
    • Ensure that signed contracts and Contract Review Sheets are uploaded onto the relevant systems

    • Ensure[DEL: s :DEL] that duly authorized signatories sign documents (including contracts) requiring signature. Follow up with authorized signatories to ensure that documents are signed properly and on time; all contracts concluded by the business are concluded in accordance with the Group’s legal policy and the Group’s Corporate Governance Framework; signed contracts are timeously received and Contract Review Sheets are properly completed; signed contracts and Contract Review Sheets are uploaded onto CMS.

    Contract Management System

    • Manage the MultiChoice [DEL: VE :DEL] Group’s [DEL: (“Group” :DEL] C[DEL: c :DEL] ontract M[DEL: m :DEL] anagement system (“CMS”) and other legal systems used in the Group (i.e. custodian of CMS and other legal systems used at VE).
    • Identify and implement legal systems required by the VE legal team.
    • Manage the Group’s filing system.
    • Prepare training material and conduct training for the [DEL: VE :DEL] Group on [DEL: : :DEL] the Contract Management System;  other legal systems used by the Group; and  the legal process.
    • Manage the legal team’s portal.

    Governance

    • Ensure that all contracts concluded by the business are concluded in accordance with the Group’s legal policy and the Corporate Governance Framework.
    • Oversee Service Level Agreement Compliance.

    People Management

    • Work with the team to achieve excellent business results through continuous people development and mentoring activities.
    • Ensure the development of a high-performing team through embedding formal Performance Development and informal coaching.
    • Determine and analyse training and development needs for team members and ensure implementation thereof. Ensure that identified training is budgeted for and executed.
    • Establish and maintain a succession plan for the management team in the area using the formal Talent Management process for identified talent and an informal process for remaining roles.
    • With the support from HR, interview and recruit direct reports and provide support to them during the recruitment of their teams on request.
    • Ensure that all poor performance is addressed through the Performance Improvement Programme and that continued poor performance is adequately dealt with. Review Performance Improvement Programme reports to determine effectiveness of interventions.
    • Motivate employees in the department and ensure that their efforts are recognised.

    Qualifications: Essential

    • LLB/B. Com Law

    Qualifications: Preferred

    • Post Grad advantageous
    • Legal secretarial/admin or similar qualification

    Experience

    • A minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in contract management 
    • 5 years’ experience as a contract manager or 8 years’ clerical and/or legal secretarial experience
    • A basic knowledge and understanding of commercial law
    • Ability to travel extensively and at short notice
