    Manager: Teaching and Learning

    Duties

    The Manager: Teaching and Learning is responsible for the academic oversight and institutional governance of the USB’s portfolio of postgraduate programmes. This includes programme approvals, curriculum reviews, assessment alignment, and monitoring of learning activities. The incumbent needs to ensure academic integrity, accreditation compliance, and the alignment of programmes with regulatory requirements.   

    The Manager: Teaching and Learning supports USB Programme Heads in ensuring academic excellence in all aspects of teaching and learning. The incumbent will assist Programme Heads in embedding effective learning practices and guiding assurance of learning in line with the mission of USB and within the HEQSF framework. This includes the following duties:

    • Promoting best practice in teaching and learning;
    • Operational management of assurance of learning;
    • Leading or participating in academic committees;
    • Monitoring student academic admission, progression, retention and throughput;
    • Guiding quality assurance of academic material and assessments;
    • Leading programme design and renewals and quality assurance against CHE standards;
    • Oversight with regard to learning and teaching of student and faculty performance accompanied by strategic interventions for improvement;
    • Advising on and participating in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

    Job Requirements

    • A master's degree in a higher education-related field. A master's degree in a business discipline along with relevant experience in higher education will also be considered;
    • Three years' experience in postgraduate education as a faculty member and/or as a teaching and learning related administrator;
    • Experience in face-to-face, blended, and remote learning;
    • Experience in formal assessment and moderation practices;
    • Experience in programme structuring and renewals;
    • Knowledge of DHET/CHE processes and approvals;
    • Experience in supporting the development of pedagogical practices of faculty;
    • Experience in using and monitoring the usage of instructional technologies;
    • Experience in assurance of learning processes and best practices;
    • Experience in supervising postgraduate students.

    Competencies:

    • Planning and organising;
    • Accuracy (meticulous attention to detail in written work and regulatory compliance);
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
    • Teamwork (establish effective working relationships with faculty and SU networks);
    • Results oriented (function in a highly pressurised environment and meet deadlines);
    • Adaptability (compromise pragmatically when confronted with multiple conflicting requirements);
    • Situational awareness (recognise trends and requirements and respond accordingly);
    • Self-development (take responsibility for the development of skills to succeed in the role).

    Recommendation

    • A Doctorate qualification in higher education or in a business discipline;
    • Lecturing at an internationally reputable business school;
    • Qualifications in blended programme design and delivery;
    • Experience in the implementation and usage of learning analytics;
    • Learning-related research outputs, including peer-reviewed articles and practitioner conferences;
    • Experience in contemporary programme design practices such as digital certification and micro-masters credentials;
    • Membership of and active participation in activities of relevant professional bodies;
    • Project Management experience.
