    Museum Archivist

    An exciting opportunity has become available for an Museum Archivist with a strong appreciation for history to manage the daily operations at our Absa Museum. The post holder will be responsible for assembling, cataloguing, preserving and managing valuable collections of historical information. Organizing publicity events such as talks and exhibitions and provide advice and guidance to all visitors. The Archivist will also handle and screen incoming calls for the ART curator and team by assisting the caller in terms of the required business need.

    To succeed in the role, you will need to a self-starter, excellent verbal communicator, able to carry out independent research, be inquisitive, methodical and logical, and have the ability to relate with others.

    Other responsibilities include but not limited to:

    • Management of all internal and external events Set up meetings timeously and invite the correct attendees to the meeting, arranging refreshments
    • Manage the meeting process by following up with attendees knowing who has declined and who has accepted and reschedule accordingly
    • Collate information and prepare documents for sign-off by the ART Curator e.g. reports, invoices, etc.
    • Handle and resolve queries where appropriate or direct the complex queries to the relevant person and/or take messages accordingly.
    • Assess the importance of the incoming e-mails and re-direct these to the relevant parties for action and facilitate completion thereof.
    • Minimize the number of meetings attended by the ART Curator by requesting and reviewing the agenda in order to propose other attendees and/or possible dates if required.
    • Management of SharePoint sites, e.g. upload all the documents e.g. production reports, fund information, commission statement etc..
    • Responsible for managing our Workplace Social media page
    • Monthly update of the external strategy adviser footprint

    Education and  Experience:

    • Hons Degree in History, English or Law (Mandatory)
    • Ability to conduct research
    • Strong Administration
