    Operations Risk Manager

    Operations Risk Manager

    A new opportunity has become available for an Operations Risk Manager to join our operations team based in Cape Town. The role of the Operations Risk Manager is to drive, improve and strengthen Mukuru’s operational risk management framework and lead the identification and management of operational risk across the Mukuru Group and specifically all territories Mukuru operates in.

    The Operations Risk Manager reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer. This role is responsible for the implementation and management of our risk management programme, as well as maintaining our operational health through monitoring, assessment, and mitigating risk across all territories. 

    Duties and Responsibilities (include but is not limited to):

    • Identify operational risks across the business
    • Review operational risk incidents and work with internal stakeholders for remediation and risk mitigation
    • Support the communication of risk appetite, policies & processes across the business
    • Work closely with business units to support the assessment of risks and project delivery
    • Facilitate & participate in risk workshops
    • Build & manage strong relationships with internal stakeholders
    • Provide subject matter expert advice to the business relating to operational risk
    • Create awareness of operational risk across the business
    • Develop operational risk policies and standards for risk management
    • Perform operational risk identification and assessment in business units
    • Implement strategic plan to prevent, eliminate and mitigate operational risks
    • Assist Operational Risk Analysts in development of key risk and control indicators
    • Coordinate with senior management in performing operational risk reviews
    • Ensure operational risk framework is aligned with regulatory requirements
    • Support compliance needs by prioritising and manage risks in accordance with compliance expectations
    • Verify compliance with risk response decisions by ensuring that the risk response measures are implemented
    • Determine the ongoing effectiveness of risk response measures
    • Identify any changes that would impact the risk exposure
    • Consider the tools and technologies that will be needed to facilitate monitoring and the frequency necessary for effectively monitoring risks
    • Lead incident response, including steps to minimize the impact and then conducting a technical and forensic investigation into how the breach happened and the extent of the damage
    • Track and monitor operating risk issues for business units
    • Report operational risk issues and decisions to senior management on an agreed communication cadence basis
    • Assist in identifying and evaluating risk areas across the operational activities
    • Investigate root causes of operational risks and provide support to mitigate risk
    • Maintain documentation for risk management and risk policies and procedures
    • Update the risk management framework as the regulatory landscape evolves
    • Gather operational risk statistics
    • Manage any operational risk committee requirements
    • Prepare reporting as required for compliance submissions and licensing applications
    • Share risk assessment results that have an organization-wide impact
    • Prepare and present comprehensive risk assessment reports
    • Generate regular and ad hoc compliance reports
    • To manage own professional and self-development

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
    • Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, MBA or related
    • 5+ years’ experience in risk management (Essential)
    • Recognised industry certifications such as CRM, CRMA, ORM, ISO 31000, PRM, etc
    • Banking / FinTech operations experience (Desirable)
    • Knowledge of operational risk management
    • Knowledge of financial technology
    • Knowledge of frameworks such as ISO31000 and bank risk management frameworks
    • Knowledge of industry standards such as PCI, POPIA, EBA, etc
