    PR Manager : Local Entertainment Channels

    • To manage the day to day publicity activities of the channel’s publicity strategy

    Key Performance Objectives
    Tasks

    Strategy Implementation

    • Develop and manage Content Digital/Social brand and PR  implementation
    • Plan and Implement publicity campaigns for content and champion reputational industry relationships 

    Publicity Management

    • Seek innovative ways to increase favorable media coverage
    • Raise the profile of channels in accordance with publicity strategy
    • Anticipate or recognise issues with potentially negative impact, and within Corporate and departmental policy guidelines, to devise appropriate strategies and responses
    • Stimulate public interest in prioritised programmes
    • Write statements, Press Release and perform online content editing
    • Co-ordinate press conferences and briefings, handling requests for interviews
    • Manage publicity photo shoots
    • Work closely with content and marketing teams in order to ensure the effective integration of activities
    • Compile Monthly Publicity Report
    • Ensure on-time delivery of information to internal and external stakeholders
    • Manage delivery and accuracy of electronic programme guide

    Stakeholder Management

    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and contacts with the media, including national and regional newspapers and magazines, websites, TV and radio outlets
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with media production departments, independent production companies, talent, their agents and representatives, ensuring that any press and publicity activities are consistent with the overall publicity strategy
    • Act as the first point of contact for the Press

    People Management

    • Manage a team to ensure effective daily operations. 
    • Support the line manager for the area to develop a high performing team by conducting daily and weekly operational performance discussions and assisting employees to prepare the portfolio of evidence for formal performance development discussions.
    • Coach, mentor and motivate the on how to improve their own productivity and use of MultiChoice processes and systems.
    • Based on training plans agreed with the line manager of the area, monitor and support team members to ensure that planned training is undertaken. 
    • Establish and maintain a succession plan for the team.
    • Together with the line manager for the area, interview candidates to join the team and provide input into the recruitment decision. The line manager for the area is the final decision-maker on who joins the team.
    • Obtain the workforce and recruitment plans created by the line manager and plan execution within given timelines. Make recommendations to the line manager on how to improve the plans and suggest how resources could be reallocated in case of excessive workload.
    • Review and update the team’s role descriptions on at least an annual basis to ensure that they are fit for purpose and contain all the accountabilities of each team member. Explain any updates to team members.
    • Review leave plans in place and make recommendations to the line manager to adjust the plans if required. Review leave captured on the employee system to ensure that all leave was captured

    Qualifications
    Essential

    • A Degree or Post-Graduate Degree in PR /Journalism or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification

    Experience

    • A minimum of 5 -8 years’ publicity or PR experience
    • Proven track record of achievement in publicity, public relations or journalism
    • A good understanding of the media environment and the newsgathering process in radio, television and print.
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Crisis management experience 
    • People management experience is essential
