Principal Geochemist at Anglo American

Purpose:

• We are looking for a Principal Geochemist to join our GDG function to develop and apply world class geochemistry methods, in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, in support of the discovery, definition and exploitation of superior value mineral resources.

Please note this is an Open Location position and able to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Developing and applying basic, advanced and leading practice techniques for exploration geochemistry to drive successful discovery.
• Advancing the application of geochemistry at mine sites in support of geometallurgy and ore control to help maximize cash flow.
• Ensuring best practice application of sampling, laboratory analysis, QA/QC and geochemical data management as part of technical risk control.
• Mentoring of Regional Geochemists, and training and supporting project and mine geologists in the science and application of geochemistry.

Qualifications

• A degree in Geoscience, and post graduate degree with a strong geochemistry component. 

Knowledge and Technical Skills: 

• Proven track record of relevant practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity
• Deep knowledge and high level skills in the science of applied geochemistry.
• Good knowledge of relevant mineral systems and their geochemistry (eg. PCD, magmatic Ni-PGE, and sediment hosted base metals.
• High level of numeracy applied to geochemical modelling and advanced multi-variate statistics and/or machine learning skills using geochemical data for problem solving.
• Good familiarity with spectral data and integration of this with geochemical, mineralogical and other data.
• Depth of global experience, working in a wide range of geological terrains and surface environments
• Track record of ideas generation, and translating these into practical initiatives and implementing.
• Integrate geochemistry with other disciplines across the business and life of mining cycle and build effective near and long term business cases for geochemical initiatives.
• Ability to inspire, influence, mentor and teach.
• Support in the planning, coordination and prioritization of people resources with and across multiple stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of results and recommendations.
