    Process Engineer (Solutions Strategist)

    To support the RMB business units in the analysis, improvement and redesign of core and support business processes from current state assessments to post-implementation support in order to deliver an improvement in efficiency, high levels of standardization and straight-through processing with defined exception management

    Responsibilities              

    • Quantify the problem statement by liaising with stakeholder and Business SMEs
    • Conduct a quick ‘dipstick’ test to test the business problem assumptions if there is available data
    • Apply Lean Six Sigma defined phase analysis by:
    • Defining process flow and value stream
    • Measuring process performance
    • Quantify business case by conducting a Value Stream / Pain Point Analysis together with initial in-depth analysis to validate the business problem
    • Define charter by using the Lean / Six sigma methodology
    • Work through the Lean Six Sigma phases:
    • Measure the Business Problem by defining Y and critical Xs, measuring variation and calculating sigma value and defect rate to derive the Hypotheses to be tested
    • Analyse data sets to prioritise critical X’s, conducting hypothesis testing and pilot testing the solution
    • Improve the Business Process by designing and implementing the solution through:
    • Finding new ways to improve the effectiveness and/or efficiency of the organisation
    • Evaluating the implications of research findings
    • Evaluating alternative methods
    • Making a logical evaluation of new ideas and designs
    • Designing logical flow-charts or diagrams
    • Designing appropriate metrics and feedback mechanisms and appropriate implementation and sustaining plans and mechanisms
    • Conduct BCA risk assessment
    • Conduct Rapid Improvement Event (RIE) training for line managers
    • Identify RIE using Lean method
    • Test and implement RIE
    • Track benefits via Performance Improvement Forum
    • Gain an understanding of BU/FA KPIs by identifying and analysing the metrics that measure the business process
    • Define processes required and establish appropriate process KPIs
    • Sign off metrics for KPIs
    • Establish analytics
    • Source data from relevant source systems and publish onto Spot Fire or equivalent
    • Identify manual process that consume large amounts of time
    • Establish automated process designs ensuring that process automation and business activity monitoring are covered
    • Implement automated process design using bank BPM technology
    • Conduct in-depth process analysis ensuring that work instructions in the applicable process tool (ARIS, System Architect, Nimbus) is included
    • Model processes as required
    • Sign off processes
    • Build and maintain professional working relationships with all stakeholders, displaying excellent abilities to initiate dialogue, listen, advise, influence and negotiate to achieve win-win outcomes
    • Initiate meetings with key stakeholders to track progress, manage expectations and ensure stakeholders’ requirements are delivered
    • Preserves relationships despite airing conflicting views and seeks mutual gains when addressing conflicts
    • Anticipates consequences and adapts problem solving based on continual feedback
    • Act speedily to resolve problems, queries and complaints
    • Adapt communication styles to meet the needs of different audiences

     Qualifications and Experience                

    • Minimum BCom Information Systems/Statistics/Mathematics, BEng Chem/Mech/Ind. or BSc Information Systems; Six Sigma Black Belt Certification advantageous; Industry recognized Project Management qualification advantageous
    • Minimum 6-8 years working experience at Process Practitioner level; Experience in identifying and running large value (minimum R20million) CI projects  
    • Strong working knowledge of the banking industry
    • Problem solving and solution focused

    • Able to apply product knowledge
    • Understand the Industry, client or potential client’s business, business processes, system requirements, banking needs and key strategy
    • Create end-to-end value propositions that include current and new product and solution sets, pricing, service and channel delivery model that meet current and anticipated future client needs
    • Manage the solution design, client engagement and client interface using project management disciplines
    • In consultation with the FirstRand products houses, design, develop and implement banking solutions that meet and exceed client needs
    • Influence product development priorities based on strong business cases
    • Application of Systems Thinking and/or Design Thinking
