    Professor/ Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer and Head of Division (Head of Clinical Department)

    About the job
    Duties/Pligte

    • Overall strategic leadership and operational management of the Division, giving expression to its vision of becoming a world-class centre for training, teaching and learning, clinical service, research and innovation in Otorhinolaryngology;
    • Fostering an inclusive and collegial environment that encourages a high level of performance, communication and teamwork;
    • Operational management of human resources and finances of the Division;
    • Participating in clinical service delivery commitments of the Division, including commuted overtime at Tygerberg Hospital;
    • Overall academic responsibility for teaching and learning, which includes supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Otorhinolaryngology across the Faculty¿s distributed training platform;
    • Overall responsibility for research and innovation, which includes leading, mentoring and participating in the design, execution, supervision, publication and translation of research in priority areas;
    • Actively participating in the internationalisation efforts of the University;
    • Contributing to the goals and functioning of the University and the Health Department through active involvement in the relevant management structures of the University and the Western Cape Government;
    • Expanding and strengthening collaboration with health services, communities and other stakeholders.

    Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

    • A postgraduate qualification in Otorhinolaryngology which may include an MMed degree and/or FC Otorhinolaryngology;
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Specialist in Otorhinolaryngology;
    • Proven record of Otorhinolaryngology surgical competence as evidenced by the submission of a personal surgical logbook of the past three years;
    • Teaching, clinical training and examining experience in Otorhinolaryngology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    • A proven record of independent and innovative research and guidance of postgraduate research;
    • Proven national and international recognition as a specialist Otorhinolaryngologist.
