    Summary

    The Wikimedia vision is a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge and the Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team is responsible for delivering on this vision internally, within the Wikimedia Foundation, and, where appropriate, externally, in the communities we serve. Our role is to strengthen the culture of equity and inclusion within the Foundation and the broader movement so that people from all backgrounds feel welcome and able to contribute to promoting knowledge equity. 

    The Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team sits within the Talent & Culture department and serves as the centre of excellence for all things related to creating an equitable and inclusive workplace environment. The Programmes Director, Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will lead the Programmes sub-team. They will partner closely with leadership and staff in each department to lead Foundation wide cultural transformation initiatives. 

    The second sub team is the Workplace team which partners closely with employees and people managers and is responsible for all day-to-day matters relating to DEI. This team will be responsible for cultural heritage months, staff and manager DEI learning workshops, Employee Resource Groups, DEI staff communications, employee engagement efforts, convening and organising Equity Taskforce and maintaining workforce metrics. 

    This role will report into the Vice President, Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and is fully remote. The candidate will work closely with the executive team (C-suite and VP’s) to support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts across the Foundation, with a focus on large programmes. They will be supported by a DEI Programmes Specialist.

    Responsibilities

    The Programmes Director will be responsible for developing/implementing the Executive Accountability Framework, developing a shared set of behavioral expectations for employees linked to our values; co-creating and developing a shared understanding of good management; embedding diversity, equity and inclusion goals within the performance review process and developing a new mentorship and sponsorship programme. 

    • Develop and execute Foundation-wide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programmes in collaboration with Talent & Culture, C-Team, Vice Presidents, Communications , and Equity Task Force.

    • Influence, challenge, and educate leadership and other key stakeholders within Wikimedia Foundation on DEI initiatives and strategy bringing fresh and relevant perspectives and ideas to keep leadership well informed on latest thinking, best practices, and developments in DEI.

    • Establish clear goals and design the metrics and processes that will help us measure  progress and accountability - for executives, managers and staff - to drive meaningful impact in building a culture of inclusion.

    • Partner with the People Experience team to embed effective DEI practices into every phase of the talent and development life cycles including, attraction, selection, development, and retention.

    • Review existing programs and integrate expertise to enhance engagement and advocacy in the areas of  talent acquisition and retention, people development, communications, marketing, and business strategy.

    • Partner with leadership in each department to support departmental DEI plans aligned with the Foundation’s Global DEI strategy.

    • Lead our efforts to close the diversity data gap with a view to providing a true picture of diversity across the Wikimedia Foundation. Define and articulate appropriate metrics/ stretch targets to measure all aspects of DEI in a global setting and work with key partners to ensure each country is making progress on their goals.

    • In partnership with Learning & Development, define ongoing learning and development solutions and build a curriculum of education to support an equitable, just, and inclusive environment.

    • In partnership with Recruitment ensure DEI is at the heart of the Wikimedia Foundation’s hiring practices by reviewing and updating current recruiting trainings and practices. 

    • In partnership with Communications, collaborate to ensure that external messaging aligns with internal strategies and efforts to external brands.

    Skills and Experience

    • Deep knowledge and experience in diversity, equity and inclusion, leading organisational change, research or a consultancy work focused on diversity, equity and inclusion.

    • Experience of working across different sociopolitical and cultural contexts.

    • 5-7 years of experience delivering highly impactful DEI programmes, projects and initiatives cross-departmentally. 

    • Management experience having led a small team and with an understanding of how to develop, engage and motivate direct reports.

    • Demonstrated change management skills and ability to adapt to change in a complex environment.

    • Experience listening and building strong internal relationships/partnerships with all levels of the organization.

    • Experience in the design and delivery of DEI programmes such as mentorship, sponsorship or ally programmes.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Strong cultural awareness and the ability to work with, collaborate, and influence diverse teams and groups and across geographies.

    • Enjoy rolling up your sleeves and providing hands-on support when needed.

    • Highly analytical with the ability to convey information to senior leaders.

    • Financially savvy with experience of managing direct and indirect budget sources across complex, matrix organisations.

    Additionally, we’d love it if you have:

    • Research experience relating to project and programme designs 

    • Fluency in multiple languages

    • Deep understanding of social movements and topics such as anti-racism, sexism, disability movements, or LGBTQIA+ advocacy

    • Experience with platforms such as Excel, Greenhouse, PEO’s

    • Familiarity with the free knowledge movement
