Senior Actuarial Specialist at Old Mutual

The Retail Protection Team is seeking a suitably qualified individual for a Senior Actuarial Specialist role.

The primary responsibilities in this role would be the product development, pricing and ongoing support for protection products in the Rest of Africa and South Africa Foundation Markets. The Rest of Africa market currently covers 14 countries, whereas the Foundation Market covers the low income category of the Retail Protection arena within the South African market.This role requires interaction with a wide variety of stakeholders in the Rest of Africa and SA Foundation Markets – including senior management, sales, marketing, administration, IT, legal and compliance.

The Team

The Retail Protection Team is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of new and existing retail protection propositions across the lower and middle-to-high income markets in South Africa. Development support is also provided to our African businesses.

We are passionate about developing simple, yet innovative propositions that are relevant to our customer’s needs, deliver on its promises and ultimately enable our customers to achieve their financial dreams and goals.

In this role, you will be expected to:

• Deliver on product pricing, including specifications, reviews and experience investigations
• Support new developments and initiatives
• Produce and review business cases and product specification documents where required
• Set design features and assess risks given market and regulatory requirements
• Develop enhancements to the products where appropriate
• Support resolution of client product queries
• Support the risk management capability and infrastructure that is in place
• Support delivery of digital and other solutions in conjunction with strategic external partners
• Provide general product support
• Qualified actuary or Actuarial student with a minimum 11 credits with at least 4 years actuarial experience.
• Exposure to product development and pricing roles would be an advantage.
• Business acumen and negotiation skills.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work on a wide range of deliverables at once.

Please note that the above appointment may be made at a lower role size depending on the successful candidates’ experience and exam progress
