    Senior Energy Analyst

    About the job

    • A Senior Energy Analyst based in Cape Town works for the South African market and supports emerging markets in the Africa region. The position requires at least 5 years of experience in wind analysis and requires significant travel. The position is supported by the central Energy Analysis Group (EAG) staff and works closely with development and commercial teams. The role location is in Cape Town.

    Main Responsibilities Will Include, But Not Limited To

    • Design of optimal site-specific measurement campaigns for wind and solar sites, including cost/benefit assessments of different technologies.
    • Wind farm turbine layout design and solar farm design.
    • Design and optimise wind farm and solar farm layouts using commercial design codes.
    • Reviewing of data, energy production reports and site conditions reports for potential acquisition sites.
    • Draft and manage Request for Proposals, Quotations, and 3rd Party accounts.
    • Support the Development team with the elaboration of annual budgets ensuring high quality measurements and EAG deliverables.
    • Apply research and innovation to meet data recovery targets.

    What you will do?

    • Design of optimal site-specific measurement campaigns for wind and solar sites, including cost/benefit assessments of different technologies.
    • Wind farm turbine layout design and solar farm design.
    • Overseeing installation, maintenance and decommissioning of temporary meteorological stations (including LiDAR units). Management of Health and Safety for these activities.
    • Analysis and reporting of site measurements including meteorological masts and remote sensing devices.
    • Overseeing the collection and quality control of meteorological data to ensure maximum data coverage.
    • Production of internal wind/solar resource and Energy Production Estimates with the highest possible accuracy and lowest possible uncertainty. These are delivered in accordance with required project timelines.
    • Management and review of third party energy production reports, ensuring optimal service from suppliers. This include both, pre-construction and operational assessments.
    • Liaising with turbine suppliers regarding turbine suitability and solar equipment suppliers regarding technology options.
    • Communication of site-specific energy production and site condition risks to project teams.
    • Reviewing of data, energy production reports and site conditions reports for potential acquisition sites.
    • Contribution to the Energy Analysis Group’s research and development, including reviewing and testing of tools and procedures in use in the EAG for conducting internal energy estimates.
    • Support the Commercial and Development with the key EAG deliverables for full compliance with renewable energy auctions.
    • Support the Development team with the elaboration of annual budgets ensuring high quality measurements and EAG deliverables.
    • Ensuring traceability and tidiness in the local repositories of Energy Analysis deliverables.
    • The above tasks will be carried out following the Energy Analysis Group’s standards.

    What we require?

    • This role requires a minimum of 5 years of pre-construction Wind Analysis experience. Operational wind farm analysis experience an advantage.
    • Wind analysis and project design experience essential; solar experience an advantage, however training can be given.
    • Experience working for a lenders’ advisor, OEM supplier, developer, or operator of wind and/or solar projects.
    • Excellent communication skills, a strong mathematical and analysis background, and the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical colleagues are essential.
    • Highly analytical with attention to detail and ability to exercise engineering judgement.
    • Programming/software development experience an advantage. Ideally experienced with SQL, Python, PANDAS.
    • Data science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence basic knowledge an advantage.
    • Knowledge of web servers and automation an advantage. Ideally able to put a web interface to internal tools.
    • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required
    • Experience in the use of WAsP, WindFarmer and Openwind Enterprise. PVsyst or other related solar resource assessment software is an advantage.
    • Experience with CFD and Mesoscale wind flow models an advantage.
    • Fluency in English. Other languages are an advantage.
    • Graduate with an honours engineering or physical science degree as a minimum. Masters or PhD qualification an advantage.
    • Self-starter with an inquisitive nature.
    • Willingness to travel.
    • Full clean driving licence.
    • Willingness to learn and get involved in international projects.
