The Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM) is the first graduate school of its kind in South Africa and also the largest in Africa. The GSTM provides management skills and knowledge training to practising engineers and scientists. The GSTM offers internationally recognised postgraduate programmes at honours, masters and doctoral level in Technology & Innovation Management, Engineering Management and Project Management. Research is a high priority for the GSTM.
Successful candidates should be committed to excellence in Project Management research and postgraduate teaching.

Responsibilities
It will be expected of the successful candidates to:

• Teach post-graduate modules on the programme focus areas of the GSTM;
• Supervision of postgraduate Master’s and Doctoral students;
• Publish research articles consistently in the foremost internationally accredited journals;
• Conduct research in a highly productive manner;
• Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support the activities of the relevant GSTM research areas;
• Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes;
• Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).
   

Minimum Requirements
Senior Lecturer:

• A BEng degree from a university of which the undergraduate programme is recognised by the Washington accord or is recognised by ECSA to be equivalent;
• A Masters’ degree in Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
• A PhD degree in Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
• Applicants with a doctoral degree in the Natural Sciences will be considered in cases where the applicant’s research and/or industry experience relates closely to the teaching and research focus areas of the GSTM.
• Expertise and research experience in one or more of the specialist areas of the Project Management research groups in the Department.
• The ability to effectively teach postgraduate modules;
• A proven research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals.
   

Associate Professor (same As For Senior Lecturer, Plus)

• At least five years’ experience at a tertiary academic institution or industry related experience;
• A record of previous undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, and supervision of Masters or PhD students that completed;
• An established research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals.
   

Added Advantages And Preferences

• Evidence of teaching excellence to large postgraduate classes;
• Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and research expertise that complement the Department’s Project Management research focus area;
• Knowledge in the field of cost management, procurement and contract management;
• Experience in project management innovation and improvement in post-modern, 4 th industrial environment;
• Related industry work or consulting experience;
• Candidates registered or registerable as Professional Engineer with ECSA

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
