    Senior Research Associate - Farm Manager

    Description

    • We’re hiring for a Senior Research Associate - Farm Manager in South Africa. Learn how you can be our voice in the conversation about the future of agriculture.

    You Will Be Part of a Growing Team
    As the Senior Research Associate you will be responsible for managing the agronomy efforts of the Hoogekraal Research Center with primary focus on irrigation maintenance and agronomical activities necessary to reliably produce high quality seed for the research organization - mainly supporting land preparation irrigation and planting activities.

    Your Challenge

    • Lead irrigation, fertilization, field volunteering programs and ensure that all policies, protocols and regulatory requirements are followed.
    • Oversee general planning and implementation of land preparation activities related to planting.
    • Oversee all planting and harvesting activities on the farm.
    • Managing all farm machinery inventory.
    • Analyze soil and foliar tissue samples data for water and nutrient management.
    • Effective communication with project leaders.
    • Coordinate the purchasing and allocation of all Crop Protection/ Land Preparation materials and maintain safe and functional storage.
    • Maintain inventory on all material to ensure that each season runs smoothly.
    • Maintain and operate all equipment and work vehicles in proper and safe working condition.
    • Participate in the improvement of safety programs and protocols.
    • Managing employees' performance, development and ensure conducive work environment.

    Qualifications
    To Grow What Matters, You Will Need

    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Agriculture related field.
    • 5-7 years experience in farm management of which at least 3 years must have been in a supervisory role.
    • Strong Agronomy background.
    • Proven ability to make timely decisions, solve problems and ability to build multitask.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, team work and ability to develop strong working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to cope well under pressure.
