The Role

The SHER Manager – Baking is responsible for overseeing the adequacy and overall effectiveness of Safety, Health, Environmental and Risk, and its implementation, identification of strategy and operations; Implementing and monitoring the process of Safety, Health, Environment and Risk Management and integrating it, into the daily activities within the business units; Ensure the adherence to the Safety, Health, Environmental and Risk compliance process; Align Business Objectives to Corporate Strategy and Protect the Business units against uncertainties that could threaten the achievement of business objectives

Responsibilities

Risk Management

• The position requires the ability to cope with changing circumstances and situations with no supervision
• Ensure that the Baking risk register summarises the significant risks faced by the division, taking into the likelihood of occurrence, the potential impact, velocity and the related mitigating factors and compensating controls
• Ensure that the treatment of risks are aligned to the risk appetite and tolerance of the division
• Opportunities for further enhancement are evaluated on an ongoing basis
• Manage Risk Assessments are reviewed on a continuous basis
• Ensure that management considers and implements appropriate risk responses
• Lead all external/internal audits
• Chair SHER Meetings

Health/Safety/Environment (OHS Act/NEMA - Legal Compliance)

• Increase awareness of applicable legislation and provide assurance to the Business Unit
• Ensure that risks posed by non-compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations are addressed
• Keep up to date with all intended or promulgated legislation
• Monitor compliance on an ongoing basis by Internal audits, External audits and thirty party providers
• Report and or escalate any areas of non-compliance appropriately
• Foster positive relationships with regulatory authorities (Department of Labour, SAPS, PSIRA, Metro Police, Fire Department, Insurers,Underwriters)
• Ensure procedural and legal compliance with incident, accident and injury on duty investigations
• Maintain the Marsh audit module scores to enable discounted rates with Insurers

Sustainability

• Ensure that a sustainability framework is in place for defining and reviewing environmental objectives and targets
• Develop sustainability strategy based on internal priorities, opportunities and threats
• Develop and drive the sustainability strategy, policy and practices across all business units
• Aligning the RCL sustainability strategy with the Business units strategies and objectives
• Drive the development of sustainability forums and departmental sustainability teams within the business units
• Evaluate opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness
• Continuously consult with relevant stakeholders and experts to ensure alignment and delivery of sustainability data
• Ensure that robust, verifiable and auditable data capturing and reporting systems are in place
• Ensure that key sustainability information is accurately and regularly captured onto the information system to enable access to reliable data and reporting for trend analysis and decision making
• Identify and research sustainability opportunities for possible implementation within the Business unit
• Create a platform for innovative ideas with regards to sustainability to be evaluated and implemented

Security Management

• Sustain appropriate security management systems, programmes and control measures
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of security control measures and recommend changes where applicable
• Evaluate Capex requirements and address with the SHER Executive
• Conduct post incident/loss investigations in order to identify root cause and determine appropriate preventative and corrective action
• Seek continual improvement in security standards by regularly monitoring regional and site activities and assess the implications of any new developments

Requirements

• Completed 3 Year Qualification in SHER (National Diploma: Safety Management)
• Minimum 5 - 6 years’ experience in a SHER role in a FMCG Environment
• At least 5 years’ Managerial experience
