Software Architect at Pattern Matched Technologies

Introduction

Pattern Matched Technologies (Pty) Ltd as an award-winning WASP (Wireless Application Service Provider), telecommunications and Fintech development house, is seeking to appoint a Software Architect to join our dynamic and experienced engineers.

The candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the below responsibilities:

• As a software architect, you should be prepared to compose a large number of technical documentation, reports, and diagrams
• Should understand that architectural decisions are usually the most expensive and be able to demonstrate where decisions have impacted design and delivery
• High-level architecture, detailed design, and documentation of software solutions
• Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, environment, and processes to ensure the highest quality software solutions
• Take ownership and drive the development team and related departments during the full software development lifecycle
• Work with the business analyses team in interpreting business requirements to address business needs
• Provide architectural and design guidance, blueprints and technical leadership to the development and IT teams
• Mentor the development team on best practice design and implementation principals
• Maintain and drive software development roadmaps
• Technical lead around design, performance, scalability, and security of solutions
• Responsibility of architecture and design of more than one product line

• Understand and plan for evolutionary paths
• Plan for new technology insertion
• Manage risk identification and risk mitigation strategies associated with the architecture
• Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to work both independently as well as in teams
• Ability to organize, estimate and prioritize project tasks
• Understanding of internal development processes
• Knowledge in relational database systems: PostgreSQL, MySQL or similar
• Knowledge and understanding of various communications protocols (TCP/IP, SMTP, FTP, HTTP)
• Knowledge in Web Services experience (REST/SOAP)
• Mobile Application Development experience beneficial
• Detailed understanding of financial and GSM systems is beneficial
• Knowledge of the banking environment is beneficial
• Adequate troubleshooting and debugging skills
• Knowledge of a wide variety of architectural styles and design patterns
• Knowledge and understanding of various coding methods and computer languages
• Data modeling, database design, and performance optimization experience
• Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes
• Knowledge of a wide variety of software technologies
• Understanding of industry-standard diagram and documentation methodologies like Entity Relationship, Sequence, Process Flow diagrams.
• Knowledge of technologies and architecture related to highly concurrent and high throughput systems
• Knowledge of DevOps and related tools and technologies
• Knowledge of the full software stack including Client-side, Web, Mobile, API, and backend

Qualifications and Experience:

• 5 years or more experience in an Architect Role
• Industry relevant qualifications or relevant industry experience
