As a tester at Allan Gray you play a critical role in the design of our software to ensure it is developed with quality in mind from the very beginning and solving the many complex challenges along the way, using some of the industry’s latest technologies.
A key part of our systems evolution is migrating our data and applications to the Cloud, and so we will need a tester to help us on our journey to ensure continued delivery while adopting new data technologies. You will be responsible not only for guiding our testing approach and ensuring the integrity of our data as we move it to the Cloud, but also coordinating the efforts of your colleagues and their impacted systems. Automation is a key part in what we do, so we will expect our testers to have a strong coding background to assist in building the automation systems that enable us to deliver this world class software rapidly.

Job Responsibilities

• Understanding Allan Gray’s CRM data and how it is used across the Retail business
• Developing and delivering on a test and automation strategy for migrating this data to the Cloud, and making it available to AG consumer systems
• Coordinate the testing of consumer applications with the teams that support them (e.g. Siebel, Appian, Digital, Comms Engine etc.).
• Explore and motivate for the adoption of testing best practices, based on our chosen Cloud tech-stack (thought-leadership)
• Playing a central role in establishing best practices for Cloud testing in an agile environment
• Autonomously research and POC Cloud-based testing problems.
• Drive any manual front-end testing that may be required – which includes system, integration, regression, functional and end-to-end testing as well as exploratory testing
• Collaborate with the Cloud development team and contribute to best architectural practices, to support future testability of the system
• Collaborate with the testing team on Cloud testing approaches.
• Collaborate closely with developers, identifying, logging, prioritizing and verifying defects in a defect tracking system
• Knowledge share with the testing team around Cloud testing strategy and implementation.
• Managing and maintaining the test environments and test data
• Implementing automated tests
• Develop test tools, and extend test frameworks and test environments
• Continuous improvement initiatives specifically with regard to quality
• Product risk mitigation thereby limiting defects in production
• Project risk mitigation thereby ensuring a smooth deployment process
• Estimating effort for testing tasks
• Defining the test approach for each sprint
• Extracting test requirements for user stories
• Designing and creating test cases
• Executing test cases manually / automated
• Managing and maintaining the regression test suits (manual / automated)
• Carry out exploratory testing
• Final sign-off of new releases
• First line support and root cause analysis of production issues and proactive, friendly, transparent and efficient support service

 

Qualification

• Degree in computer science or business information systems ideal, but solid experience working with data will be considered as well

 

Experience

• Strong SQL skills and knowledge of databases.
• Some experience in working with AWS services would be beneficial
• Experience in analysing system architecture and identifying risky areas
