Treasury and Risk Accountant

An exciting opportunity exists for a TREASURY AND RISK ACCOUNTANT at AVI LIMITED, Illovo, Johannesburg. The primary focus of this position is to ensure the accurate accounting and administration of Group Treasury related operations and to support the business with daily treasury requirements. The Treasury and Risk Accountant will perform and assist with various treasury functions which include, but are not limited to, daily cash management, foreign exchange and commodity hedging, month-end accounting and other back-office activities.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and reconcile the daily Group bank account balances
• Prepare consolidated cash flow position and ensure that the subsidiaries have the required funds to meet their operational requirements
• Ensure that the best interest rates are achieved through the cash management, borrowing and investment activities
• Prepare, maintain, and analyse the daily and rolling 8 week cash forecasts
• Perform the back office administration function efficiently and accurately in a timely and effective manner
• Ensure that all Treasury payments and transfers are processed and released on time
• Verify all internal and external borrowing and investment transactions
• Process and reconcile all internal and external Treasury transactions from the Treasury management system, and prepare accounting journals for integration into the general ledger
• Raise accruals and post journals for reconciling items
• Reconcile all Treasury balance sheet items and ensure that reconciling items are cleared in the next period
• Prepare daily market reports for distribution to subsidiaries
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Adhere to corporate policies and procedures at all times
• Maintain the integrity and effectiveness of internal controls within own area of responsibility and make recommendations on any required adjustment
• Prepares procedures for all activities within own area of responsibility

Qualifications and Experience required

Experience:                                                                

• At least 2-3 years front or back office experience in a corporate treasury function or banking environment.

Qualifications:

• B.Com with Finance and Accounting
• Other qualification with specific emphasis on treasury and risk management will be advantageous.
• ACI Dealing certificate will be highly advantageous

Previous working knowledge in:

• Exchange control regulations.
• Bank administration processes and services, e.g. front, middle and back-office.
• Treasury related instruments available in the market with respect to managing foreign currency, interest rate, and commodity price and liquidity risk
• Macro and micro-economic principles and the ability to assess economic data
• Accounting principles
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Able to integrate/coordinate financial and operational issues and assess the possible treasury risk
