Underwriter at Santam Insurance

Provide leading underwriting competencies and apply a risk based evaluation mind set in the construction and financial sector.

What will make you successful in this role?

• Provide efficient, criteria driven underwriting competency, a thorough understanding of accounting principals
• Prepare financial evaluation model and offer opinion to portfolio underwriters
• Administer the recording and allocation of transactions effectively on Santam systems in order to produce accurate and relevant reports and trending statements
• Provide excellent service to existing and new brokers and clients
• Thorough analysis and interpretation of financial statements
• Prepare various ad-hoc reports for management feedback
• Audit underwriting system information (with that of client GT’s and retained exposure)
• Foster relations with banking partners and key brokers
• Management accounts function:
• Schedule and lead monthly results meetings for business
• Manage relationship between Finance support and business
• Supervise reconciliation of accounts: journals, provisions, expense recon, premium recon,
• Report on credit control during monthly results meeting
• Ability to understand the flow of transactions, from the underwriting system to the reported financial amounts.

Qualifications And Experience

• BCom Accounting / BCom (Hons)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the financial/banking/surety industry.
• Must have leadership / people management skills experience
• FAIS compliant
