    Buildings Unit Leader

    Job description

    KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

    Project Delivery:

    • Accountable for the delivery of all projects within the Unit. This includes the timeliness, quality, risk management, project financial performance and scope management of the projects, in line with the Aurecon methodology;
    • Accountable for the delivery of allocated components of projects managed by another Service Unit in Aurecon. This includes the timeliness, quality, risk management, financial performance of the allocated Phase or Task of the project;
    • Responsible for the performance of all subcontractors and contract workers;
    • Responsible for the contribution to delivery of projects in the Emerging Regions, where requested; and
    • Responsible to effectively utilize resources.

    Winning Work & Client Relationships:

    • Working closely with Client Directors to understand and participate in client strategies and participate in the client programmes through managers embedded in the operational team of the Unit;
    • Accountable for the generation of revenue for the Unit through client relationships, proposals, tenders and bids;
    • Responsible for contribution from the Unit for client proposals and tenders in conjunction with the Client team;
    • Key and local client interactions and proposals overseen by Client Directors and their teams, whereas transactional clients will be maintained out of the Unit; and
    • Accountable for the Unit’s participation in all major tenders and proposals.

    Financial Management:

    • Accountable for the financial performance of the Unit; and
    • Accountable for managing project profitability and financial contribution from the Unit in accordance with plans and budgets.

    People Management & Competency Development:

    • Responsible for leading, managing, developing and motivating employees to ensure a high performing and engaged Unit;
    • Responsible for ensuring the ongoing development of careers and competencies;
    • Responsible for ensuring participation and contribution to knowledge management, including sharing of knowledge, resources and work across the Service Group; and
    • Responsible for harnessing the skills and competencies of staff members, whom are able to contribute to the Service Group delivery

    General Management:

    • Responsible for the Unit's contribution to the success of the Region in which the Unit is located;
    • Accountable for business planning as it pertains to the Service Group Unit and provide input to the Region’s strategic plans; and
    • Responsible for Trans compliance to company policies and procedures, legislative requirements and act as a role model for Aurecon's values and behaviours.

    KEY PEFORMANCE MEASURES

    General Management:

    • Responsible for the Unit's contribution to the success of the Region in which the Unit is located; and
    • Accountable for business planning as it pertains to the Service Group Unit and provide input to the Region’s strategic plans.

    Financial:

    • Meet the budgeted Financial Plan;
    • Unit CBAC as per budget in ZAR – 45% of score
    • Unit CBAC % as per budget – 20% of score
    • Regional CBAC as per budget in ZAR – 15% of score
    • Unit Working capital performance against targets (based on new calculation methodology), and an aim to reduce WC exposure dramatically – 20% of score
    • Demonstrates active and timely financial management and commercial acumen on all projects in the Unit; and
    • Minimise risk to Aurecon and improve efficiency by ensuring Unit compliance with relevant financial policies and procedures

    People:

    • Engagement: Drive an inspiring performance culture through active and ongoing conversations, coaching and development of employees, measured through a combination of (i) staff engagement/feedback and (ii) staff attrition rates; and
    • Diversity:
    • Increase the diversity of Unit in line with the diversity plan
    • Play an active role in engaging and mentoring promising Black candidates
    • Play an active role in engaging and mentoring promising Female candidates

    Clients:

    • Ensure the design and delivery client experiences that are impactful, meaningful and enjoyable for staff and clients alike (the Aurecon experience) in the particular Unit; and
    • Play an active role in the roll-out of client strategies developed by the applicable market.

    Strategic:

    • Play a strong role in supporting the roll-out of innovation initiatives (i40, DLT, Client Workshops, Innovation week, etc.) in the Region and/or guide and enable participation of the particular Unit; and
    • Support the development of eminence (individually and collectively) in the Unit.

    KEY QUALIFCIATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Required: Degree in Relevant Engineering Field (Civil, Mechanical or Electrical)
    • Preferred: Post Graduate qualification in relevant professional discipline
    • Required: Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
    • 15+ years relevant professional experience in the Built Environment
    • Proven successful leadership experience in professional services environment
    • Proven successful leadership experience in managing risk, quality control and improvement
