    Finance Risk Specialist

    Job description

    Job Summary

    One of our leading financial services clients is currently seeking a Finance Risk Specialist to join their expanding team. The purpose of this role is to provide a quality service for the Financial Management Risk function on Investments, Group Finance and Balance sheet Management, as well as provide advice on business direction, based on financial risk interpretation.

    Role Responsibilities:

    • Custodian of all financial management risk policies, frameworks and risk plans
    • Assist business units to capture, identify, assess, manage, monitor and report on financial risk issues relating to on-balance sheet assets. Analyse and challenge the financial risks identified
    • Assist and guide the business in the development of Financial Key Risk Indicators
    • Complete and monitor the Internal Financial Control Framework (IFC)
    • Update and implement the Error Treatment and Reporting Policy within the business
    • Provide guidance and training on the Policy and completion of incident reports
    • Instill importance and awareness within the business
    • Funding Account set up and monitoring of accuracy and completeness through reconciliations between the general ledger and risk management systems
    • Attend operational meetings, where applicable
    • Handover the process to the Operational Risk Specialists for the follow up and implementation of corrective action
    • Calculating and monitoring of error thresholds per business unit
    • Review status of reconciliation reports on a monthly basis, attend the reconciliation meetings and prepare the quarterly reports for the respective governance committees
    • Completion of a risk profile for the operational finance area within the Investments area
    • Reviews of CAR reports (FSB and JSE) on a monthly basis (where applicable) and prepare the quarterly reports for the Combined Assurance Forum and Boards
    • Drafting and updating of the Delegation of Authority Framework
    • Review activities for specific business requirements, this entails research and analysis of industry best practice and suggest solutions to determine the best operational course of action
    • Build and maintain excellent relationships between the Risk team and key internal stakeholders
    • Monitor finance related internal and external audit findings
    • Entrepreneurial approach to adding value in the business from a financial risk perspective, in line with the business culture of excellence and outperformance
    • Be a credible financial risk partner to the business, acting as the point of contact for financial risk related matters

    General Risk Management:

    • Input into due diligence reports
    • Attendance at relevant project meetings in order to assist in identifying, capturing, evaluating and reporting on risks
    • Identify areas of concern, investigate further and put processes in place in conjunction with the Change Management Team
    • Drafting of audit universes and identify audits for internal audit plan purposes
    • Actively participate in relevant Group Risk Forms and input on Group Policies
    • Operational and Finance Committee Reporting requirements to be defined and presented
    • Assist and guide the business in drafting (where appropriate) finance related policies within the business
    • Complete and monitor the Internal Control Framework applicable for the operational finance area

    Key Qualifications:

    • Chartered Accountant CA (SA), Certified Internal Auditor who worked in an Investment environment or CIMA graduate with Financial Service experience
    • 3 years Financial Risk experience and/or Financial Services experience, preferably Investments
    • Financial Risk Management Certification will be advantageous

    Key Experience Areas:

    • Experience in reviewing reconciliations
    • Experience in monitoring Internal Financial Control Frameworks
    • Experience in analyzing financial statements
    • Understanding capital adequacy requirements, profit and loss attribution, and market risk
