    Cost and Management Accountant

    Job description

    Purpose

    Reporting to the Group Financial Manager, the successful incumbent will be responsible to ensure that all costs that have been incurred by the Group are accurate, valid and complete.

    Qualifications and Experience Required

    • B Com/ Honours/CIMA (will consider candidates busy with CIMA) audit articles an advantage
    • Advanced ExcelSAM ( Advantageous) and other FSB reporting requirements knowledge
    • Minimum 3 experience in the insurance industry
    • Medical experience advantageous
    • Financial reporting experience

    Key Areas of Responsibility

    • Develop a cost model for shared services, between the different entities
    • Analyze different cost drivers for the insurance business and administration expenses (produce reports and make recommendations.
    • Perform monthly variance analysis of budget vs. actual expenses, breakeven analysis, monthly presentation of financial results to the Group Financial Manager
    • Monitor and review recoveries ( labour, overhead, 3rd part recoveries )
    • Produce key financial ratios for the Group as well as statistical information
    • Participation with external audit and compilation of annual financial statements.
    • Present information as well as the ability to be operationally involved - be involved with branches and production units liaising with Management at branches and departmental level.
    • Respond to all written and verbal enquiries within a reasonable period
    • Timeous delivery and accuracy of work completed in accordance with stipulated deadlines
    • Adherence to internal controls
    • Prepare monthly & quarterly cash flow forecasts;
    • Monitor and evaluate the profitability of the Group
    • Review all WIP variances and where necessary revise standard or average costs as necessary.
    • Ongoing analysis of costs and tracing these back to all the underlying activities., trend analysis
    • Review and monitor cost data accumulation within the business and to ensure that the Ability accounting system is aligned to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. The role is also responsible for provision of accurate and timely reporting analysis,
    • Assist the Group accountant with month end close, variance analysis, , review of operating expenses.
    • Responsible for assisting the accountant in maintaining the integrity of our cost accounting system.
    • Prepare journal entries and perform balance sheet reconciliations as they relate to his/her area of responsibility.
    • Responsibilities also include analysis of department expenses and preparing monthly department expense reports.

    • Uploading of cost center information
    • Analyse the cost data and provide feedback and/or financial reports to management and corporate
    • Responsible for understanding the companies’ business system and documenting the daily/monthly procedures
    • Assist the Group Accountant with the asset capitalization process
    • Assist the Group Accountant with the overhead budgetary process
    • The incumbent will be responsible for the checking of allocations in the general ledger to ensure postings are to the correct cost center and communicate findings. Furthermore the incumbent will be required to improve booking accuracy and who will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate processing of cost accounting transactions.Ensure compliance:
    • To ensure all work performed in terms of required standard and regulation.
    • To ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to.
    • To ensure that all relevant insurances and licenses for the Group are in place,
