    HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER - OPERATIONS

    Job description

    Qualifications:

    • Matric Certificate
    • Degree or Postgraduate HR qualifications
    • Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
    • Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken

    Position overview

    To plan, coordinate, and supervise the operations of the HR office in order to enhance the morale of school personnel, promote the overall efficiency of the school systems and procedures, and maximize the educational opportunities and benefits available to each individual employee.

    • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar role.
    • Previous experience in managing an HR office
    • Previous experience working in the educational sector advantageous
    • Previous management experience within a multinational environment advantageous
    • Knowledge of local South African laws and practices required
    • An understanding of and insight into the BCEA, LRA and OHS Acts, with the ability to apply the required principles
    • A clean criminal record and a person of sober habits is required

    Preferred skills and experience

    • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar role.
    • Previous experience in managing an HR office
    • Previous experience working in the educational sector advantageous
    • Previous management experience within a multinational environment advantageous
    • Knowledge of local South African laws and practices required
    • An understanding of and insight into the BCEA, LRA and OHS Acts, with the ability to apply the required principles
    • A clean criminal record and a person of sober habits is required

    Performance Responsibilities:

    • Provide guidance to school administrative and supervisory personnel in matters relating to employee relations.
    • Recommend new or revised employee relations procedures.
    • Coordinate employee organization relations programs with the support services and other operations divisions.
    • Recommend responses to South African legislative changes in the area of employee relations.
    • Plan and direct a program for selection and assignment of the best-qualified personnel.
    • Form part of the interview team for local applicants, and make recommendations to the School Director or Director of Operations.
    • Certify salary placement classifications and salaries to the Finance Office.
    • Report to the School Director and Director of Operations the problems, conditions, and needs of the Human Resources Office.
    • Attend regular meetings of the Operations Management team, and serve actively to improve communication, cooperation, and planning.
    • Conduct necessary research for successful wage and salary administration.
    • Plan, develop and revise personnel management procedures, and keep the Faculty and Operations Handbooks updated.
    • Develop, monitor and implement the School’s Employment Equity Plan.
    • Serve as liaison between employees and insurance benefit providers for medical, life and disability insurance.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with school grievance and disciplinary procedures.
    • Respond to questionnaires, surveys and correspondence from research or professional organizations requesting information.
    • Support the School Director and the Director of Operations in their administrative efforts, interpret his/her ideas and decision to staff and public, keep him/her informed of pertinent division developments and events, and seeks their counsel or decision as necessary.
    • Engage in actively advocating, promoting and securing the rights of all persons, with particular reference to the educational enterprise of which he/she is a part.
    • Prepare and post Vacancy Notices on the AISJ website and in school staff rooms, and work with local placement agencies for filling positions.
    • Prepare and manage the Human Resources budget.
    • Organize and conduct new staff orientation.
    • Create and keep current the Human Resources page of the AISJ web site.
    • Create Human Resources office forms for school-wide use (Appraisal forms, Leave Request forms, Salary Loan/Advance forms, etc.)
    • Prepare and conduct school surveys.
    • Monitor job descriptions for all positions in the school and make amendments as required.
    • Liaise with the Nehawu Union on matters relating to school Union members, including salary, benefits and contract changes.
    • Serve on the Employment Equity Committee and ensure annual submission of the Employment Equity Report to the Department of Labor
    • Other duties as may be assigned.
