    Chief Executive Officer

    Job description

    Job Purpose / Main accountabilities:

    • Setting strategy and direction
    • Modelling and setting the company culture, values and behaviour
    • Building and leading the senior executive team
    • Allocating capital to the company’s prioritizations
    • The following positions reports to the CEO:

    Main Accountabilities:

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Direct the company in keeping with the vision outlined for the company by the Board of Directors
    • Partner with high-level officers to grow the company, strengthen it and ensure its sustainability
    • Represent the company as required, including attendance of important functions, industry events and public meetings
    • Work closely with the Country Managing Directors to prepare annual budgets, business development plans, guide them and oversee country operational activities.
    • Provide leadership to the management (EXCO) and staff of the company by translating and operationalizing vision and mission into clear KPIs and work plans for the departments and staff, and as such instill confidence with all staff in their ability to successfully contribute to jointly achieve the overall AMSCO mission.
    • Lead by example.
    • Work closely with the Finance Director to prepare annual budgets, complete risk analysis on potential investments, and advise the Board of Directors with regard to investment risk and return
    • Work closely with Human Resources (HR) regarding design and development of the organization, company policies and compensation & benefits.
    • Oversee quality control throughout the company, establishing goals for each company within the AMSCO Group in partnership with Managing Directors of each Company within the AMSCO Group.

    Business Strategy

    • Lead in conjunction with the Board, the development of the Company’s strategy
    • Lead and oversee the implementation of the Company’s long and short term plans in accordance with its strategy
    • Ensure the Company is appropriately organized and staffed and to have the authority to hire and terminate staff as necessary to enable it to achieve the approved strategy
    • Ensure that expenditures of the Company are within the authorized annual budget of the Company
    • Assess the principal risks of the Company and to ensure that these risks are being monitored and managed
    • Ensure effective internal controls and management information systems are in place
    • Ensure that the Company has appropriate systems to enable it to conduct its activities both lawfully and ethically
    • Ensure that the Company maintains high standards of corporate citizenship and social responsibility wherever it does business
    • Act as a liaison between management and the Board
    • Communicate effectively with shareholders, employees, Government authorities, other stakeholders and the public
    • Keep abreast of all material undertakings and activities of the Company and all material external factors affecting the Company and to ensure that processes and systems are in place to ensure that the CEO and management of the Company are adequately informed
    • Ensure that the Directors are properly informed and that sufficient information is provided to the Board to enable the Directors to form appropriate judgments
    • Ensure the integrity of all public disclosure by the Company
    • Develop Board agendas in collaboration with the Chairman
    • Request that special meetings of the Board be called when appropriate
    • In collaboration with the Chairman, determine the date, time and location of the annual meeting of shareholders and to develop the agenda for the meeting
    • Sit on committees of the Board where appropriate as determined by the Board and
    • Abide by specific internally established control systems and authorities, lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and the Company’s standards and policies, including its environmental, safety and health policies.

The ability to communicate This skill goes further than being able to articulate the company's values and vision. Aligning people and making sure that there's communication throughout the organization. Be able to communicate to others their jobs and roles at a very simple level and to make sure they're aware of their roles in terms of the success of the business.

    Ability to motivate others

    It requires a fair amount of interpersonal awareness, the ability to identify what peoples' wants and needs are, and to respond to them appropriately. The ability to take ultimate responsibility for motivating individuals in the organization.

    Ability to develop others

    Focused on how to optimize people. Optimizing the employees includes training, feedback processes, thinking about people in terms of strengths and weaknesses, and their key developmental points. Be willing and able to bring people along and help them grow with the business.

    Business Acumen: The ability to obtain and analyze essential information about a business problem, recognize the possible options and solutions and select effective actions.

    Problem Solving/Analysis: Ensuring that decisions are made on policies, rules and organizational directives and solving the emerging problems. To determine actions needed to advance the decision making process.

    Decision Making: The ability to make difficult decisions in a timely manner and in difficult situations.

    Performance Management: The ability to take responsibility for one’s own or employees’ performance, by setting goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly.

    Results Driven: The ability to focus on the desired results of one’s business, setting challenging goals, focusing effort on the goals and exceeding them.

    Financial Management: The ability to manage funds efficiently and effectively in such a manner as to accomplish the objectives of the organization.

    Knowledge and Expertise

    • Experience providing strategic guidance to large global organisations.
    • Extensive network within the continent of Africa and across boards of directors of other businesses.
    • Excellent commercial outlook with an ability to see what really matters for a company. o Strong financial Acumen with a highly analytical outlook.
    • A sound knowledge of the talent acquisition and business development in various countries in Africa.
    • Human Resource Advisory expertise will be advantageous

    Experience, qualifications and other requirements

    • Master’s degree.
    • MBA preferred
    • 10 to 15 plus years in various management/leadership roles in a variety of businesses and industries mainly in Africa
    • Proven track record of driving business in a broad range of African countries.
    • Experience in serving on a board as a member
    • Experience in leading and serving the board of the company
    • French / Portuguese is a plus
