Senior Policy Associate at J-PAL

• Conducting desk research to scope the feasibility of scaling new programs.
• Helping design and lead field research and piloting for scaling up evidence-based programs and policies.
• Meeting with policymakers across the continent to advocate for evidence-informed programs and policies.
• Assisting in preparing for policy meetings, drafting implementation plans and grant applications. 
• Maintaining knowledge of policy-relevant J-PAL studies and preparing policy briefs.
• Supporting trainings and policy events.
• Acting as the communications lead for the policy team.

Qualifications:

• Education: Honour’s degree in a relevant social science discipline which includes training in economics and statistics. Strong interest in international development policy as demonstrated by coursework and/or study or work abroad is a plus.
• Communication: Attention to detail and advanced writing skills for communicating policy lessons from academic papers in ways that policymakers understand.
• Time Management: Proven ability to handle several different projects/tasks at one time, successfully complete tasks assigned and meet deadlines while conducting high-quality work.
• Software proficiency: Strong skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Stata.
• Willingness to Travel Internationally: The Policy Associate will be required to frequently travel to support scoping work, policy outreach and training events. Passion for travel across Africa is a must.
• Work Eligibility: Applicants must be legally eligible to work in South Africa. J-PAL is not able to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
