    Employee Relations Specialist

    Job Description

    We invite applications for the position of Employee Relations Specialist in the Human Resource Department, for appointment with effect from 1 June 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

    The main purpose of this position is to provide a specialist employee relations service to the university through stakeholder engagement, training and coaching, servicing employee relations committees and reviewing and maintaining policy and procedures. We seek to appoint an individual who thrives on complexity and challenge, is proactive and able to deliver successfully under pressure. This person must have demonstrated competence in employee relations and relationship management.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s/B Tech degree / Advanced diploma (NQF 7) in Human Resources Management or Law
    • Admission as an attorney is advantageous
    • Five years broad and progressively more complex employee relations experience, preferably in a multi-union environment with active participation in collective bargaining
    • Excellent pro-active client service and people orientation
    • Good working and theoretical knowledge of current legislation governing HR practice and its implementation through policies
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
    • Coaching and advisory experience
    • Proven experience in servicing and advising employee relations related committees (including minute writing).

    Responsibilities:

    • Providing a specialist employee relations service to the University
    • Case management which includes representing the University in disputes internally or externally (e.g. CCMA)
    • Liaising with University appointed attorneys and ensuring that line managers and HR practitioners are well prepared for cases
    • Stakeholder engagement
    • Training, coaching and mentoring of HR practitioners
    • Providing an advisory service to HR practitioners and clients
    • Servicing employee relations committees, including minute writing
    • Reviewing and maintaining policies and procedures

    The annual cost of employment for 2017, including benefits is between R 512 522 and 602 966.
